Theres nothing better than seeing a bunch of people that don’t know how to dance, come together and try and dance for a good cause. Even better, this time around, it was a group of police officers performing at the local high school.

What starts off as a performance led by two officers, one playing a steel guitar, the other strumming an acoustic, turns into something totally unexpected. The two officers begin to sing ‘My Girl’ to the crowd as the dancers behind them start to sway. A few of the male officers start to serenade the females, but the women officers continue to look unimpressed by their singing and dancing.

The scene shifts slightly as the duo wraps up their song, and suddenly all the ladies are in front, striking an intimidating pose to Beyonce’s song “Run the World (Girls)’. They show off some very impressive moves, something you wouldn’t expect from the police, and the crowd cheers them on. Though it’s not long before a few of the men interrupt their show for a number of their own. ‘This is a Man’s World’ starts to play as a few men step forward and start to dance and show off moves of their own, and suddenly we have a dance off.

Another officer duo takes the stage and impresses the crowd with some hip-hop dancing. Then some new faces join them on stage, not dressed in a uniform. These are the Austin East Dancers, a group performing alongside the police officers for a community show. This dance off quickly becomes more than just a battle of the sexes, and becomes more of dancers versus officers. They get together for a quick number before the two groups split up and line the stage, forming a path for each one to showoff their stuff, officers and dancers alike.

Combined, the two groups are incredible. They move two at a time down the row, one dancer and one officer, and they each show off what they got. A lot of their moves are similar, and it looks as though the officers try to imitate whatever the dancers do, and surprisingly, they’re pretty good at it. Once everyone in the line has made their way through the whole group gathers center stage to just move and have a good time before making room for the next act.

Seeing this kind of positivity among police and the community is really refreshing and it’s great to see everyone having such a good time. If more people took time to do something like this together in the world, it would definitely be a better place.
