Ever wondered what will happen when a groovy pop ballad song meets R&B?

An American musician remakes a famous pop ballad of the ’70s into a soulful R&B rendition in his cover of Bee Gee’s “How Deep Is Your Love” that will have everyone in awe.

In a video uploaded by PJ Morton on his YouTube account, the Grammy award-winning singer performs an unplugged version of the song “How Deep Is Your Love” featuring YEBBA.

“How Deep Is Your Love” is a pop ballad written and recorded by the Bee Gees in 1977.

As their performance kicks off on the count of three, chill beats and sweet tones filled the air. The group strummed their bass guitars in unison with the sound of the keyboard, and an ensemble of violinists complemented their harmony. PJ Morton immediately won the crowd with his crooning.

Morton started the song right away after the brief intro—and he gives serious Stevie Wonder vibes while playing the keyboard.

Listening to him will make you think of rainy days or Saturdays spent at home!

Yebba joins the show in the chorus her angelic voice makes it all seem effortless!

Her runs made the song sweeter and airy, you would be left wanting for more and wishing her part was longer. She reminds me of artists like H.E.R. and Jorja Smith.

Her falsetto at the end of the second stanza was flawless; their audience in the studio was astonished by how amazing her voice is, giving Yebba cheers and applause.

Alongside Jesse Carmichael, he has been one of the keyboardists of the famous pop-rock band Maroon 5 since 2012.

At first, Morton just joined the band as a touring member in 2010. However, after Carmichael went on indefinite hiatus, Morton became an official member.

Morton’s rendition of “How Deep is Your Love” overall reminds me of the old R&B style, like the music of Janet Jackson or Boyz II Men.

His version of the song is just as breathy as the original. However, despite offering the song a new style and genre, he gave justice to the piece by maintaining the core of the song as it remained as a warm and tender ballad. The third repeat of the chorus was a cappella as Morton invited the crowd to join them to sing the song.

As the camera focused on the audience, several people in the studio were awestruck with how soulful and wonderful their performance was.

As the song came to an end, only their vocals can be heard, filling the studio with serenity.

In the background, all kinds of people can be seen mouthing the lyrics of the song. Morton solos the last chorus with his two backup vocalists.

Piano notes flourish in the air, ending with a round of applause.

He playfully plays the piano as he finishes the last notes of the song along with his impeccable runs.

His performance helped him bag the “Best Traditional R&B Performance” award in the 2019 Grammys.

A cover of the 1970’s hit song was included in his 2017 self–released album Gumbo.

It was released by Morton Records, as the follow-up to his third studio album New Orleans in 2013. Later on, it earned him two Grammy Award nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song for “First Began.”
