Time after time almost didn’t happen. Cyndi Lauper had no plans of writing another song. She was done recording her album, She’s so unusual in 1983. It was her producer who thought it needed just one more track. So Cyndi and her co-writer slash keyboardist, Rob Hyman, got to work.

Lauper was very much eighties. And the song, a melodic, bittersweet narrative of love and moving on, has endured. It’s such a beautiful work of art that countless artists have made covers of the ballad.

Enter the artist known as Pink.

Alecia Beth Moore is Pink. And she is one of the most talented female singers out there. Where some artists only sound good on album, Pink is one of those vocal stunners who sound so much better live.

Also known for her outrageous hairstyles and rebellious look, she’s not the typical Hollywood type who does nothing but dance while showing skin. Pink lets her singing do the work. And this rendition of Time after time is one of those jaw-droppers of hers.

And yes, it’s live.

She was plagued by asthma through her early years but listen to any of her songs and you wouldn’t believe she was ever sick. To prove how insanely talented she is, Pink goes acoustic with this one. Just pure, raw talent and skill.

That voice!

She sings the iconic first words,

“Lying in my bed, I hear the clock tick and think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new”

Her signature raspy, husky style blended with soulful emotion is what gets you. It’s a romantic ballad and those lyrics with Pink’s tone make for a match made in heaven. It’s audible pleasure.

Pink is edgy but still a lady.

Emotive, powerful, sultry. Pink sings the classic Lauper song guiding her audience as they sing along with her. If Cyndi Lauper was the perfect look for this song when it came out in the eighties, then surely Pink is the modern version. It must be the outrageous hairstyles.

She goes along singing but every now and then, plays with the octave by singing a word with a higher pitch. And it doesn’t ruin the performance one bit. To be honest, it sounds so much better. It adds more emotion in her style.

The crowd loves her.

They jump ahead to the chorus but Pink, ever so gracious, sticks her hand out to say, not yet, before launching into the chorus herself with a lovely smile. Oh and she goes up a few notes too. What a singer!

Pink has awesome control. Not once does she go off key, not once does she miss a cue. Her voice soars above and around the arena as she serenades her audience and anyone watching this video. You’ll never get lost if you find Pink’s voice!

She will be waiting. Pink raises the bar of female singers every time she sings. And she doesn’t seem to care as long as she rocks that stage. Bet you she can sing anything. It’s with slower songs where one can tell if an artist can really sing. And this rendition is slower than the original version.
