A regular day at the Charles de Gaulle airport became extraordinary after not one, but two musicians decided to give an impromptu performance.
Ladyva is a professional pianist. When she came across a piano at the airport in Paris, she decided to sit down and play some music to pass the time. Soon a crowd began to gather — one of them a saxophonist who just happened to have his instrument with him.
Passersby were already stopping to gawk at the amazing boogie-woogie tune that the pianist was pounding out. Then the saxophonist joined it and brought it to another whole level.
The two musicians played off one another with professional energy.
Jazz music allows one instrument to take center stage at a time, and even while they were improvising, the two did it perfectly. Handing the lead back and forth, they alternated piano and saxophone melodies off the top of their heads.
They were clearly having a blast. So was the crowd, many of whom were on their way to their plane gates when the duo caught their attention.
At last, when the impromptu performance ended, the two musicians smiled at one another.
Illyes, the saxophone player gave a thumbs-up.
“Ladyva and Illyes never met before but here is what happens when music is involved,” read the video description on YouTube.
That’s right, the two did not know one another. They simply met in the right place at the right time and decided to create music.
People around the internet were amazed.
“What’s amazing is that the two strangers who may not have spoke the same language met spontaneously,” wrote YouTube commenter Shaun Liedtke. “They did, however, speak the universal language of music!!”
Ladyva is a Swiss pianist with a focus on jazz and boogie-woogie music.
She has appeared in concert and on television all over Europe, as well as the Dominican Republic. Now with a label under Universal Music, she has also performed at the Blue Festival Basel, The Late Late Show in Ireland, and actor Jerry Lee Lewis’ Farewell U.K. Tour.
She has also performed multiple years at the Cigar Awards for guests like Burt Reynolds, Kelsey Grammer, and Charlie Sheen.
Though she largely focuses on traditional sounds in boogie-woogie music, Ladyva has been known to dabble in some genre crossover. For example, her YouTube channel features a performance of the J. Lo song “On the Floor” featuring Pitbull. However, it’s a little different than the original.
The pianist gave the song a boogie-woogie makeover, changing its strong beats into swinging ones.
She also brought in some unconventional instruments, such as the drums.
“No one better attacking the keyboard,” wrote YouTube commenter Long Tall Texan. “You and the drums make a great team.”
