In December 2018, an unassuming janitor was sweeping at a train station in the United Kingdom.
The janitor casually walked up to a piano that was sitting in the middle of the train station. The janitor then put down his broom and sat down on the piano bench. And just like that, it was clear that the man wasn’t really a janitor at all!
The janitor was actually a concert pianist in disguise.
The janitor/pianist began playing the opening of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” People who were passing by kept glancing over at him, curious about who was playing the piano. Soon, the pianist began to draw in a crowd!
The pianist continued playing “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the surprised and delighted commuters.
More and more people stopped to watch him play. Many people pulled out their phones and began recording the impromptu concert.
Once the pianist finished playing “Bohemian Rhapsody,” he decided to play one more song for his adoring crowd. He chose another Queen song: “Don’t Stop Me Now.” Everyone danced along with the classic song.
After the pianist finished, the crowd clapped and cheered for him. The pianist picked up his broom and pretended to start sweeping again.
“Back to sweeping?” one little boy asked at the end of the video, which made the pianist laugh.
The video of this impromptu piano concert quickly went viral, receiving over eight million views.
Many YouTubers left hilarious comments on the video. Lots of people commented on the fact that the other janitors were probably a bit confused about what was happening.
“Other Janitor: ‘He doesn’t even go here!!!!!!’” one commenter wrote.
Another commenter pitched a brilliant idea for a sequel video!
“Now we need a professional staff member disguised as a musician cleaning the floor professionally..”
This isn’t the first time a professional musician has surprised a crowd of commuters with an impromptu concert.
In another viral video, a pianist named Henri Herbert hopped on a piano in London’s St. Pancras Train Station and played a whole concert. He attracted a huge crowd at the station, and his video also received 16 million views on YouTube.
The UK’s Opera North Orchestra also put on a surprise performance for unsuspecting shoppers at a mall. The orchestra performed Ravel’s Bolero in the middle of the mall, and they sounded great!
As these videos show, it’s always exciting to see musicians giving impromptu, surprise performances. If you’d like to see the viral video of the pianist dressed up as a janitor, check it out below.
