It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know who Tom and Jerry are.
For those who don’t, they are a cat and a mouse who are famous enemies, and who spent years chasing each other all over the screen. But do you remember the episode where Tom played piano?
If not, here’s a live re-enactment of Cat Concerto that couldn’t be any more adorable.
The performance came from an experimental musician who posts refreshing content to her YouTube channel.
Yannie Tan, from Atlanta, Georgia is a young pianist who competes internationally and aims to experiment with her music.
With 205,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel, Tan felt motivated to put a little comedy into her performances. That’s how she came up with the idea to play alongside animated characters who’ve had their fair share of piano performances in cartoons.
So how does she do it? As it turns out, the process is quite simple.
For example, there is a clip of a famous cat Tom from Tom and Jerry in the corner of the screen, and Tan follows everything he plays. Of course, she arranges her compositions to follow the tempo in the cartoon, and the outcome is fantastic.
For her originality, she even received a coveted YouTube Silver Creator Award.
We’re about to see a video where Yannie plays an arranged version of Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt.
From what she said during an interview, it was a miracle video that made her famous on YouTube! She’s had her channel since the 7th grade because she wanted to show her progress playing the piano. This was the video changed it all, and that made Tan famous.
And her cat outfit completes the act!
To make it as believable as possible, Tan performs with cat ears on her head and a tail attached.
She even wears a tuxedo that’s similar to the one Tom wears in the cartoon. Tan also painted her nose black and mimicked everything Tom does—from the way he prepares for a show to his body movements and facial expressions.
We have to say that the comic part doesn’t take away from her talent.
You can see that she’s a brilliant and talented pianist who has been honing her craft for years. Her passion is obvious!
The video was filmed at the Pops Concert at Peachtree Presbyterian Church in 2017, and it’s not associated with Warner Bros.
Let’s remind ourselves of the fact that Tan was only 16 when she played this. It’s an extraordinary talent, delivered in a catchy way!
If it wasn’t for Tan who brought the piano part from the cartoon to our attention, we might not have ever realized just how well-made it was.
Imagine how many people got interested in classical music or playing the piano after watching this!
We love it when someone gets creative and finds a way to present something complex in such a funny manner.
The only way the video would be funnier is if an actual mouse were running across the piano.
The original episode is actually called “Cat’s Concerto,” and was released in 1947.
It even won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.
Thank you Tan, for reminding us of the high level of screen fantasy and humor. Since it was posted, the video has earned 33 million YouTube views. Tan has continued to post her original compositions and lessons to her channel.
