They are from Branson, Missouri, and they usually perform country and bluegrass music.

Composed of five family members and one family friend, the group tries to make a living by catering to tourists and performing on small stages in Branson with their wonderful bluegrass performances. They’ve been performing together for over ten years.

They started gaining international fame after Ellen Petersen got recognition as one of the top 50 contestants on one season of American Idol.

Moreover, the band had toured throughout the United States, Canada and Ireland. Since then, The Petersens have built quite a name for themselves on YouTube and on their other social media accounts.

Since they have fans on both Patreon and YouTube, it’s easy for them to ask their fans for a solid song suggestion for their next video.

Apparently, one of them was Kenny Rogers’ hit single featuring Dolly Parton called “You Can’t Make Old Friends.” After getting the suggestion, the band decided to go for it because it fit their style perfectly.

The song was from a 2013 album of the same name.

We will never get tired of listening to Kenny Roger’s country music—especially with Dolly Parton in the mix as well!

The family decided to recreate the magic that those artists had by performing their own cover of the song. The group performed at home in their living, and their lighting creates a perfectly nostalgic vibe for their musical talents.

Even though it’s all a throwback to two classic country artists, The Petersens made sure to add some twists to make it their own.

Since the song was originally a duet, Matthew was the one who takes Kenny Rogers’ place—and his sound is just perfect for the part.

After the first chorus, Ellen takes the spotlight with her immaculate vocal runs. After that, she’s immediately followed by Matthew for the male part before the chorus.

Each of them had a chance to shine on the vocal parts, including Emmet and his youngest sister, Julianne.

Julianne really nailed her solo part as her beautiful, airy voice fills the room alongside Emmet’s dobro. Their mom, Karen, accompanied them with her giant bass as well!

Everyone had each other’s backs, whether on the harmonies or instruments.

You can always count on the Petersens for their outstanding harmonic tunes!

Although this is just one of many covers, it’s definitely one of our personal favorites.

No one is ever too young or old to appreciate good old-fashioned music—especially when it’s Kenny Rogers we’re talking about!

One of the best things about the internet is it gives home-grown bands like The Petersens a chance to show off their talents. Particularly because we’ve all been in lockdown so long, seeing people find new ways to display their creativity is enough to inspire just about anybody. Even so, it helps if you’re a country music fan—and when the people covering those old songs are as talented as this family is! We just hope The Petersens keeping performing songs like this one—maybe one day we’ll be able to see them in person!
