“Cantique de Noël” or more famously known as the song “O Holy Night” is a very well known Christmas carol that anyone, anywhere in the world would probably recognize.

You can guess where this is going.

Now you’ve heard many different versions of the song from lots of artists, but you’ve never heard a Christmas carol in the style of bluegrass.

And now you will thanks to this musically inclined family.

The setting is some sort of barn decorated with your usual holiday lights.

And the Petersens hold their instruments typical of a bluegrass band, playing together and singing the sentimental carol.

It’s a carol that reflects on the birth of Jesus as humanity’s redemption.

Based on a French-language poem by poet Placide Cappeau, it was written in 1843, with the first line “Minuit, Chrétien, c’est l’heure solennelle” (Midnight, Christian, is the solemn hour) which composer Adolphe Adam set to music in 1847.

The English version of this song is by John Sullivan Dwight.

The Petersens keep it simple, and in typical bluegrass fashion, sing the song with a steady melody.

Not too slow, not too fast, but just right.

The simple performance is so uplifting, it moved this viewer to say,

“So beautiful y’all. The sound was just so wonderful and joyous. Everyone looked so nice and the four Petersen ladies looked so elegant as well. Gotta love the sights and sounds of Christmas. The songs, the movies and we might get just a flurry or two on Sunday and Monday. It’ll be here before we know it. All of you there in Branson and all your friends and fans around the world have a safe and healthy Holiday season. Have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas.”

See, it doesn’t have to be flashy or fancy all the time.

It’s about delivering a message, and that’s what this family is doing. Spreading the message of Christmas through music.

And that message is well known and loved all over the world, especially by Christians.

Another viewer loved it so much she had this to say,

“Very neat arrangement! Emmett is very skilled at arranging things that are unique compared to most, yet still respectfully capture the feeling of the original. And Ellen’s voice is always so powerful and moving! Great job everyone! Wonderful kickoff for the Christmas Season! God bless!”
