I haven't heard an a Capella group that is quite as astonishing as these guys.

Pentatonix is an American a Cappella group from Arlington, Texas. The globally known group for its impeccable song covers was initially formed in 2011.

In the same year, they also won the third season of NBC’s The Sing-Off and received $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony Music.

The group’s current members are Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee.

It can be recalled that on May 12, 2017, Pentatonix’s former member, Avi Kaplan, announced that he would be splitting from the group.

In a video announcing his departure, Kaplan said that he loved being in the world-renowned group.

However, he found it extremely hard to keep up with their group’s schedule which required him to spend less time with his family.

Kaplan was then replaced by Matthew Levon “Matt” Sallee and became the second bass in Pentatonix. Sallee’s first album is A Pentatonix Christmas Deluxe.

He is featured in “Deck the Halls” and “How Great Thou Art (feat. Jenifer Hudson)”.

The power of five!

This is perhaps the secret of Pentatonix, after all, Penta means five, and the synergy from its members is too strong once they perform.

Following their ‘The Sing-Off’ victory, the group signed a recording contract with Sony Music which didn’t last very long. Sony’s Epic Records dropped them in 2014 after the cancellation of the show itself which brought them to stardom.

From great vocals, alluring melody, creative rhythm, and intelligently planned arrangement – this group has it all.

But just like what they always say, when a door closes another one opens.

The group took it as a blessing in disguise and used the opportunity to make their own YouTube channel which they named after their group.

As of this writing, the Pentatonix YouTube channel has 20 million subscribers with nearly 6 billion views!

Those numbers simply prove the kind of prominence that they have both on television and social media.

Giving a 60s classic new flavor.

This viral video is just one of Pentatonix’s many hit videos on their channel.

Here, they put Paul Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sounds of Silence” into a whirlwind of vocal calisthenics.

Adding to the magnificent arrangement is the cinematography that would take anyone breathless.

Individually, the members of Pentatonix are great for they each bring their own contribution to the table like the beatboxing, riffing, percussion, and bassline.

But to combine all these in one piece is just too much of an absolute a Capella performance.

This video of their a Capella performance of “The Sounds of Silence” was uploaded and it’s already racked up more than 138 million views and 1.7 million likes!

One of their online viewers had minced quite a good few words about this beautiful rendition of the a Capella group.

“I am 57 years old and hearing this incredible rendition it’s like a bridge across time. I remember listening to Simon and Garfunkle singing the original version like it was yesterday.

So much time has passed, what was old is new again, and here we are facing the same issues that we did in the ’60s. I hope this generation does a better job of listening to and heeding the message herein.”
