The Bee Gees are without a single doubt on of the greatest groups in the history of music and formed a massive inspiration for countless of artists.
Over the years, the music by the Bee Gees has been covered a number of times by a surprisingly large amount of artists. Television channel CBS recently decided to air a tribute to the Bee Gees with the ‘Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute To The Music Of The Bee Gees’ special.
Tons of fantastic artists were invited on the stage to bring their own rendition of a Bee Gees song. Artists including Keith Urban, Little Big Town, John Legend and Stevie Wonder all covered a popular track. The acapella group Pentatonix certainly wowed the entire audience when they brought their unique spin on ‘Too Much Heaven’.
Not only did the audience love their pure voices and beautiful harmonies, but none other that the Bee Gees’ very own Barry Gibb was clearly touched as well. The grammy-award winning group Pentatonix were honored to perform a Bee Gees song.
“Barry Gibb was right there 10 feet in front of us,” said group member Scott Hoying. “We are not going to screw your song up – we promise.”
“We were so nervous backstage,” adds Pentatonix’ Kristen Maldonado. “It’s such an iconic song. It’s quite an honor.”
The five talented singers clearly look up to the musical mastermind. “He was so sweet and humble and gracious,” Scott said. “For a legend, you never know how they are going to act, but he was the nicest.”
It’s safe to say that Pentatonix has a healthy obsession with the repertoire of the Bee Gees.
“I feel like the Bee Gees have always been about tight harmonies,” said Mitch Grassi. “We are obsessed with it.”
After viewing their performance, it’s really easy to become obsessed with them as well.
