A Capella group Pentatonix is famous for their beautiful harmonies. The group consists of Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Scott Hoying, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee—who replaced original member Avi Kaplan in 2017. These five singers all have incredible voices that meld perfectly together.

In February 2019, the group put out a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence” to celebrate the start of their 2019 World Tour. The song was a perfect match for Pentatonix’s soulful vocals.

The song begins with a solo from Scott Hoying, who has one of the deepest baritones of the group. After that, the other five singers joined in, creating an incredible sound with just their voices.

The video quickly went viral, receiving more than 25 million views. Fans loved seeing their favorite A Capella group perform this classic song.

“It doesn’t matter the song or how many times I listen to a PTX cover… I get chills EVERY time,” one fan wrote.

Another fan complimented Scott and Matt’s performances in particular.

“Can we appreciate Scott controlling that Bass?!?! And Matt’s upper register?!?! Both these men are extremely talented!!!! I’m happy to finally hear this PTX cover because it’s one I’ve wanted since the SING-OFF.”

Pentatonix first became famous in 2011 when they won the NBC show The Sing-Off.

The group won the competition by singing “Without You” by David Guetta. The audience cheered as loud as they could when the group finished singing.

After Pentatonix won The Sing-Off, they signed a recording contract with Sony Music.

The group released their first album, PTX Vol. I, in 2012. It reached number 14 on the US Billboard 200 Chart.

The group also released a series of YouTube video that went viral. They did covers of some of the top songs of 2012, including “We are Young” by Fun., “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye, and “Gangnam Style” by PSY.

Over the next few years, Pentatonix released PTX Vol. II, PTX Vol. III, and PTX Vol. IV. They’ve also released a few different Christmas albums.

In 2015, Scott said the group was planning to transition towards more original music.

“We’re at the point in our careers now [where] we must go to original music, and we want to go to original music; we have so much to say, and I think it’s gonna be quite a journey,” Scott said in the PTX documentary ‘On My Way Home.’
