Nowadays, we get to witness a lot of different personalities showing off their talent throughout the whole world using the internet.
From dancers, singers, you name it—the internet is already a medium of broadcasting one’s talent and make a living out of it. Today’s story is about these two particular singers from the Philippines who have shared their singing prowess with the whole world using the internet.
The first one is a Filipino-famous R&B singer.
His name is Johann Mendoza, a talented R&B singer who was a former vocalist of the Filipino Vocal group called The Voices of 5.
Before he went solo, The Voices of 5 had recorded a bunch of famous R&B covers that got international attention—especially the songs from Boyz II Men and Stevie Wonder.
In 2014, Mendoza decided to go solo and later found his own success on YouTube after uploading song renditions from various artists like Usher, Whitney Houston and Michael Bolton.
The other one is a female personality who excelled in both acting and singing.
Kim Molina is a Filipina actress that also has the talent for singing.
She acted in several local television series, movies and even starred in musical theatres—especially in the Filipino production of Ghost: The Musical in the role of Louise.
Asides from her TV success, she also won awards in singing.
One of them was the title Senior Grand Champion Vocalist of The World after she participated in the World Championships of the Performing Arts in 2019 at Los Angeles, California.
In 2015, these two decided to collaborate for an epic R&B rendition of Peabo Bryson’s classic.
They set themselves up at a recording studio for a one-take cover of Peabo Bryson’s famous classic, “If Ever You’re In My Arms Again.”
The arrangement of the song was remade into a more mellow tune and ornamented it with elements that sounded perfect with the instrumental. Mendoza took the lead on the first few lines, singing in his smooth yet colorful timbre.
Molina then followed with her tender vocals, hitting the low notes with vivid emotion before she passed the mic to Mendoza for the transition.
With Mendoza’s powerful vocals and Molina’s outstanding vocal support, everything sounded perfect.
Each of them took turns going through the lines of the song’s pre-chorus.
Mendoza was the first one to skim through the first chorus line but Molina followed him closely and blended in her voice for a beautiful harmony. Their voices mixed perfectly like coffee and cream, and hearing them was a feast for the ears.
The key change was undeniably executed in absolute perfection.
You could tell how great they were at controlling their vocals—especially when they passed the song’s bridge.
Molina prolonged the final word with a few vocal bends as the song’s key went up a notch.
The key change was no problem for Mendoza because of his insane range, but Molina more than held her own!
Both of their vocal runs and chops were so impressive that you could really feel the emotions as they sang.
The duet sang a few improvised vocal lines as the instrumental came to a satisfying end.
The cover went viral with over 57 million views on YouTube.
Mendoza uploaded the whole performance in his YouTube channel and both Filipino and some international fans have come to love every second of it. Because of that, Mendoza has acquired more subscribers and brought his channel to 98 million accumulated views.
