Most people think of the legendary Patsy Cline when they hear the song “Crazy,” but anyone with a music background knows it was originally a Willie Nelson hit.

While both singers are generally classified as “country” stars, the song itself defies genre – it’s a soulful ballad. And, fun fact, it was originally titled “Stupid”!

We’re glad he changed it since we don’t think it would have had the same impact with those lyrics.

Covers

Countless artists have covered the song over the years, one of whom is Casi Joy. Joy has parlayed her online fame into television earning some serious accolades along the way.

According to her website:

“With over 35 million video views online, Joy has captured the attention of music fans around the globe who appreciate the way she melds traditional country and modern pop influences. A seasoned performer, her impressive social media presence eventually led to a highly-touted run on NBC’s The Voice…and was singled out by Rolling Stone as having one of the top 10 best blind auditions of all time – a testament to the hard work and dedication of someone who has been performing professionally since the age of five.”

While her tour has been interrupted by the pandemic, she can’t wait to get back out on the road. And no doubt fans are eager too. But in the meantime, they can catch her on her YouTube channel.

And while it’s hard to cover a classic, viewers were thrilled with her vocals.

“I’m really critical when it comes to covers of this song and this one absolutely rules haha,” said a fan.

The singer wrote in her caption that Patsy Cline had been a major influence on her music, and it shows.

The future

While she graduated from Park University with a bachelor’s degree in education, Casi Joy “has since been touring the US and Canada in her tour bus that she now lives in full time.”

When she’s not performing, she’s working on her social media following which is growing by the month. Her second EP “The Bright Side,” debuted at #19 on the iTunes Country Album Charts recently and she’s planning much more music in the future.

She’s already shared the stage with acts including Montgomery Gentry, Maren Morris, Keith Urban, Carly Pearce, Easton Corbin, and Dustin Lynch. Now living in Nashville, she also returns to her childhood home Kansas City to sing the National Anthem for the Kansas City Chiefs, American Royal, and KC Royals games (another notably difficult song that required a wide vocal range).

If this is the first time you’ve heard of Casi Joy, it certainly won’t be the last.
