Mention the word “funk” in the context of music to anyone under the age of 25 and they will most likely be thinking of one song. It’s the song that as of March 2020 remained the sixth most viewed video on YouTube, with a rising total of 3.8 billion views. It has been a major brick in the wall of the 21st century’s popular music, and proves to have remained a staple of good-vibe music. It is of course, Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars.
And if you haven’t noticed, Uptown Funk gon’ give it to ya!
So when one girl gets her hands (and her parents) on it, you know they’re bound for a good time!
Jensen O’Dell is a young and talented dancer at the beginning of her career. But it’s clear that she doesn’t only dance for business, she does it for pleasure too! When she and her parents took to the stage (living room) to strut their stuff to Mars’s hit, the fun was only just beginning.
Their video begins with Mom and Dad, fist bumping at the onset of the song.
Technically speaking, it begins in 2015, when Uptown Funk first broke the pop music world. With their sunglasses on inside and at night, the message is clear; these guys are not here to mess around. It does look a little like they actually miss each other’s fists with their fist-bump, but that’s the price of visibility you pay to look that cool.
So when Jensen enters with her own handshake (and sunglasses), the party is set.
With all players in place and down to get funky, the fun is just about to start!
Now attending the Pones school of dance, Jensen has continued to follow her dreams.
Four years after her video with her parents dancing, Jensen has taken that passion for dance and focused it into a career. But where do these seeds spring from? Fertile soil. In terms of the family what does that mean?
It means a Mom and Dad who aren’t afraid to get a little silly and make dance videos with their passionate daughter.
Which brings us to their actual routine.
Now, it’s clear watching this performance who the dancer in the family is. Spoiler alert: It’s not Dad! But just because he’s no pro doesn’t mean viewers of the video didn’t get a kick out of it! A brief look at the comments section reveals just the opposite.
You can’t disagree either, they all seem to be having a blast!
The funky attitude of the song is perfectly embodied in the this whole troop. And while some of it seems to be loosely choreographed, for Dad, it’s all from the heart baby!
The most heartwarming thing about this whole dance routine is the absolute enthusiasm from both parents.
Spending time together and encouraging this sort of connection is a surefire way to grow the talent in your children.
