We never see many trumpets aside from on the sidelines of a classical orchestra band.
It seldom takes the center stage. However, some phenomenal trumpet players have shown the world that their instruments deserve a brighter spotlight. Today, we’ll be talking about one stunning trumpeter who charmed the world with her music.
Alison Balsom OBE is an English trumpet soloist, arranger, producer and also a music educator.
She already traveled half the world with her trumpet and made a name for herself, even more than just a successful musician. She mostly plays baroque and classical pieces on her instrument, including trumpet concertos from Haydn, Mozart and Bach.
Following her consecutive successes, she has developed a reputation as a prodigious lady on the trumpet.
Balsom has collected several awards in her career as a trumpet soloist.
She started her professional career as a solo classical trumpeter in 2001.
As early as 2002, she already released her debut album with the help of EMI Classics, her record label at the time. Her second disc with EMI Classics shortly followed in 2005. In 2006, she won the Young British Classical Performer award as well as the Female Artist of The Year in both 2009 and 2011.
Even at that point, she kept growing as a musician and continued bagging awards until she was then appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire—an order of chivalry awarded to those who have given groundbreaking contributions to the field of arts and sciences—in 2016.
She displayed her elegance during a large ceremony for classical musicians.
Wearing a long, elegant white dress, Alison Balsom made her entrance in the middle of a large crowd full of talented musicians.
It was the 2012 Echo Klassik Awards held at the Konzerthaus in Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin. As she reached the end of the hall, she then stood in front of the backing orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin conducted by Vasily Petrenko, she drew her mouth to the trumpet.
The moment she blew the horn, the musical conductor led his pack of stringed instruments to accompany the soloist.
Balsom played the third movement of the Trumpet Concerto in E-Flat Major, Rondo, a classical piece that was on her Haydn and Hummel concertos album.
She played this piece on numerous occasions but this one highlights her talent better than any other!
As the large spotlight shone on top of Balsom, she continued producing a mesmerizing series of tunes with her trumpet.
She blew in rapid succession without running out of breath, but also with great accuracy in her fingers. Balsom filled the hall with the sound of the classical piece and merged by the sound of the orchestra.
She translates the notes with her fingers with great fluency, and she executed the piece with such flawlessness in her crafts.
The performance was a great hit and she was one of the awardees that day.
The whole performance was broadcast by German television ZDF on October 12, 2012.
Balsom had shouted her name in front of prodigious talents on the ceremony with the sound of her instrument.
Balsom was among the winners of the award as the Instrumentalist of the Year.
Bringing her stunning look and bewildering music, she stepped out onstage with overwhelming brilliance—and you have to see it for yourself!
