You’re never sure what to expect when attending a talent show. Some people’s “talent” can be pretty off-the-wall.
In this case, it’s positively mind-bending.
One audience was in for a unique surprise when a group of girls came out on stage wearing black and white suits. But it wasn’t just your typical dance act – it was more like an “optical illusion.”
If you’re going to enter a talent show you better have something interesting up your sleeve. After all, the acts that everyone remembers usually have some form of pizzaz.
The crowd couldn’t help but chuckle as the seven teens shuffled their way into the spotlight. They were standing in a row, however, their legs sure did look peculiar…
Instantly your brain plays little tricks on you. Wait, why is there a weird jumble of limbs I’m seeing?
Suddenly, the epic song “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor fills the room. That’s when they start doing some leg lifts.
Just a few moments later the song changes, and so do the teens’ moves. What you see is not only funny but it kind of plays games with your eyes.
Whose leg, what leg… How come all their heads don’t match their bodies?
The trick, of course, is in the costumes and the fact that they alternate in black and white (with each girl getting a side of each – and having some parts connected).
Although it’s very obvious what’s behind the “secret,” it’s still an entertaining sight that messes with your perception.
They’re not the only group who’ve tried this act. However, it’s one that’s amusing every time you see it.
A highlight of their performance comes when the music switches to the classic tune, “Chariots of Fire.” The girls use only their white costumed legs to make it appear as if they’re running.
There may be seven of them, but pretty much, it looks like three-and-a-half bodies are in motion.
People who attended the LDS Ward talent show laughed at each new visual they saw. It’s a little humorous, mixed with some creativity and “magic.”
So what exactly is an “optical illusion?” Very Well Mind explains on their site:
“Optical illusions, more appropriately known as visual illusions, involves visual deception. Due to the arrangement of images, effect of colors, impact of light source or other variable, a wide range of misleading visual effects can be seen.”
On the other hand, some real-life illusions can be dangerous. According to ABC News:
“Pilots might encounter visual illusions while in flight, such as a false horizon, or when landing, such as a narrow runway. They are trained to recognize and ignore these illusions so they can safely fly their aircraft.”
In the video, the girls perform different movements with each new song that comes through the speakers. They even include a little “U Can’t Touch This.”
While we don’t know if the teens won their talent competition, they certainly won over the internet. The video of their performance has been watched more than seven million times!
