Here’s a real treat for all you country music lovers out there.
Olivia Newton-John’s posthumous album ‘Just The Two Of Us: The Duets Collection’ comes with this duet with Dolly Parton.
And you just have to see and hear this version of “Jolene”.
This is previously unreleased footage but thank the music people for giving it to us.
Newton-John passed away in August of last year at the age of 73.
But before her passing, the beloved “Grease” actress had been working on an album of duets.
It’s due for release and she really did collaborate with Dolly Parton.
This video starts of with Parton introducing herself before saying how “excited” she was to be working with Newton-John.
She went on to call the late Newton-John, “one of my favourites of all time.”
“We’ve always stayed close through the years and I am just so proud to be part of this duets project that she’s doing,” she added.
“We’re singing one of my favourite [songs] that I’ve ever written ‘Jolene’. She says it’s one of her favourites, so why not just do a duet on our favourite?”
Newton-John then added: “I’m excited, I’ve always wanted to sing with Dolly.”
Her voice just brings back so many memories.
Dolly Parton and Olivia Newton-john first became friends in 1974.
This was after Newton-John won the Country Music Association Female Vocalist Of The Year award.
Most people knew her as an actress but Olivia was a great singer.
It’s a decades-long friendship between two amazing artists.
Newton-John’s softer, sweeter tone is the perfect contrast to Parton’s edgier sound.
The blending is sublime, with the guitar and drums accompanying both women in perfect harmony.
“Jolene” is one of the most memorable country songs of all time.
The song was said to have been inspired by a red-headed bank clerk who flirted with Parton’s husband Carl Dean at their local ranch.
This happened at around the time they were newly married.
But then Dolly also says that Jolene’s name and appearance were based on a young fan who came on stage for an autograph.
Regardless of the story, this duet is great!
It’s a simple video set in a studio, so you can see Newton-John and Parton’s talents directly on camera.
And Olivia has always looked amazing even in her seventies.
Dolly had this to share about her late friend.
“My last memory of Olivia was when I sang with her on my song ‘Jolene’ which she recorded for an album not so very long ago.
I cannot wait to hear that album and Olivia may you rest in peace. You left a spot that one else will ever fill.”
The video isn’t even a month old and already it’s got 1.6 million views.
“Jolene” is a fairly easy song to sing along with, and this duet is no different.
These two will have you bopping your head and inevitably singing along.
