Before anything else, may Dame Olivia Newton-John rest in peace.
She was a four time Grammy award winner with global sales of more than 100 million records.
Newton-John was one of the best-selling music artists from the second half of the 20th century to the present day.
To many of her fans, she is forever “Sandy Olsson”, one half of John Travolta’s “Danny Zuko”.
“Fly Away” by John Denver and Olivia Newton-John was a huge ’70s success.
The song reached the 13th spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while peaking at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Easy Listening.
The song’s popularity was largely credited to the lyrics and Denver’s performance, but it was Olivia Newton-John’s backing vocals that really helped catapult the song to fame.
If you’ve forgotten about this song, or have never heard it, then here you go.
A song about loneliness and longing, this 1975 classic somehow still speaks to us to this day.
In an age where everything is easily connected, there’s just this feeling of detachment all the time.
It was a simpler time but everyone interacted in person.
This song brings intense feelings of nostalgia, especially with both Denver and Newton-John now gone.
The comments section were filled with sentiments.
“Two of my favorite people from my childhood to this very moment. So so many memories. Thank you both with all my heart. Your presence made this world a much better place.” says Rhonda Berg.
Mediha meanwhile commented, “listening to this laying in my garden, late on a summers night, eyes closed and it is the most peaceful, beautiful and haunting feeling you could ever imagine.. it’s heavenly rest in peace two angels”
But Denver and Newton-John will be remembered for this song forever.
She donated hundreds of millions to wellness research up until her passing.
Denver was a pilot whose plane crashed in October of 1997. Reports say he ran out of fuel.
Their voices seem to just soar above time.
From 1975 to present day 2022, John and Olivia have left us a gem of a song. One you can play on repeat during those long, lazy days.
A song that helps you get away from it all.
It’s almost like the lyrics speak of Olivia’s final days,
“All of her days have gone soft and cloudy
All of her dreams have gone dry All of her nights have gone sad and shady She’s getting ready to fly”She was an amazing actress and singer, with a wholesome beauty unmatched from her days in the 70’s up to her death.
And her voice really did go well with John Denver’s style.
It’s such a relaxing melody thanks to their voices. No wonder the song endures to this day.
Denver and Newton-John have gone on beyond this mortal life.
They have been wonderful artists who have shared their amazing talents with us. Now they sing with a glorious choir.
