Olivia Armstrong might be little but her dancing is fierce.
Olivia ended her dancing season of 2020 by performing a lyrical solo to “The Prayer” sung by Celine Dion. The emotional song paired with her touching lyrical performance will leave you in awe.
Olivia Armstrong dances with the maturity of an adult but with the innocence of a child all at once and it is beautiful to watch.
Olivia Armstrong performed at KAR Live in San Gabriel, California. This was not her only dance and also performed a jazz solo to Poker Face by Lady Gaga. This little girl is already multifaceted at the age of 8. The KAR Live dance competition was held over Olivia’s birthday weekend as she went from 7 to 8. Her performances were highly regarded and a great way to kick off her eighth birthday.
Were you this talented at your eighth birthday?
“Thank you @dancekar for a great end to my dance season this year! I had a fantastic experience performing both of my solos one last time. I loved both of them very much and feel very thankful to my teachers Miss @rachelruhe and Miss @candice_mccarty ♥️💗♥️ I finished this season feeling FIERCE. So excited to see what new things the next season will bring!,” Olivia wrote about her performances.
Olivia performed a lyrical dance solo; are you wondering what is lyrical dance?
The Omaha School of Music and Dance states that, “Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires expression of strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics of the song. This style concentrates on an individual approach and expressiveness of such emotions as love, joy, hurt, or anger. It does not concentrate on the dancer’s precision of movement.”
Olivia was only seven performing her lyrical dance. One might think that a seven year old might not be able to express very strong emotions because they have not experienced really strong emotions yet. That is not true about Olivia Armstrong. She might not have personally felt certain emotions needed for the performance but she still beautifully portrayed the emotions through her dance.
Olivia is a real artist that shines during her moment.
2020 has been a hard year for the entire world through the pandemic. It has been trying for every person and that includes children such as Olivia Armstrong. So, to perform a lyrical dance to “The Prayer” is the most fitting to end her dance season of 2020. The song is about praying for safety, guidance, and hope during a time when such things feel rare.
The song means more now than ever, especially for children, like Olivia Armstrong, that might not deeply understand the world right now but pray for better times.
Olivia dances with grace and beauty. Her flexibility will leave you speechless as she nimbly dances across the stage. To think she was only seven while dancing so gracefully, who knows what she will be capable of as she trains and grows over the years. Olivia’s dancing future is bright and we cannot wait to watch her grow into an even more talented dancer.
