We’ve all seen those pianos which have cropped up throughout malls, train stations and public communal areas all over the world, but it’s rare that someone with a special talent comes to play a tune or two.
The pianos are often a source of fun for kids to play to their hearts content, so we’re not used to hearing much of a tune come from them.
Setting The Scene
But one senior lady was about to put everyone else to shame. Despite being older than most piano players, this woman oozes confidence and rocks the keys like she’s still 20 years old.
The whole incredible moment was caught on camera, and it’s a great mood-boosting video to share with your friends and family.
The Slow Song
The video was shared onto YouTube by Brendan Kavanagh, and since being posted it has hit the big one million views. As an onlooker begins to record, the woman is just coming to the end of a slow song which seems to have gone down very well with passers-by.
As the song comes to an end, the woman is greeted with a huge round of applause, and the crowd around the piano waits eagerly to see what she will play next.
Is the elderly lady tired after playing such an incredible tune? It appears not.
Then she brings down the house
With applause still ringing from the first number, the lady rarely takes a minute to pause before launching into the second number. It’s an upbeat tune this time, and people can’t help smiling as they watch her fingers working quickly on each piano key.
Before long, the woman’s extraordinary playing has attracted a bigger crowd. People hold up their phones and their iPads to record the amazing moment, and the woman even has time to acknowledge the cameras and smile. She’s truly a superstar!
What is she playing?
The woman appears to be playing a nostalgic mix of Stride jazz piano, and Boogie-woogie. Stride music originated in the 1920s, so the woman probably has fond memories of hearing it playing when she was a child. And while Boogie-woogie originated a little earlier in the 1870s, it only really became popular in the 1920s, making it another childhood favorite for the lady.
She could go for hours!
This talented lady really seems to be relentless, and though the video is only just under two minutes long, we can’t help thinking that she ended up playing for a lot longer. While most people would get tired after a couple of songs, she seems to have the spirit in her to keep on going!
At one point, the lady’s ring begins to slip off- and amazingly, she’s able to quickly take it off and resume playing without so much of a pause!

People took to the YouTube comments to share their love for the video, with one person saying, “Look at how beautiful and put together she is! Got the makeup, nails and jewelry done just right. Confident and rocking the keys like she’s 20 years old. I just love her!”
Another added, “I find myself wondering what kind of places she played in when she was young. Bet she has some cool history.”
