The Saskatoon Police Department in Canada recently took a break from their serious duties to participate in a humorous lip-sync contest.

Embracing the fun, they chose the Backstreet Boys’ iconic song “I Want It That Way” for their performance.

No doubt inspired by the Brooklyn 99 sketch that caused the song’s surge in popularity again.

And when a popular comedy show about a police force started a trend or two, some real police departments couldn’t help but join in.

The video begins with an engaging scene: five officers lined up, each taking turns to lip-sync a part of the famous chorus.

They have police budget, not music video budget – so don’t expect the fanciest of transitions and effects.

The seamless transitions and creative shots kept viewers hooked, and the low-budget nature gave it its own charm.

Despite being on a budget, there was still clearly effort there and that made it a hit with the hundreds of thousands of viewers.

A notable aspect of this production was the enthusiastic participation of numerous officers who volunteered their free time to bring the video to life.

Even though they’re not Big Machine or MTV, they have some knowledge of filming locations and angles.

From police stations to city streets, each scene was carefully crafted to contribute to the overall entertaining narrative.

The dedication of the officers was evident in the quality of the final product.

One of the most memorable segments of the video is set at Tim Hortons, where a female officer humorously lip-syncs while eyeing a selection of donuts.

Brooklyn 99 and the Backstreet Boys are really the gifts that keep on giving, and they keep giving us videos like this.

Sometimes, officers need to kick back and fool around off the job too.

The everyday setting of a popular coffee shop helped bridge the gap between the officers and the community.

Adding to the fun, some officers took the extra step of playing around with costumes, which shows that they’re not opposed to dressing up for the bit.

The tactical SWAT team also made an appearance, bringing along an armored vehicle and impressive special effects.

The SWAT team joining in might have been the cherry on top for some, since it’s not every day you see the armored car see other uses.

Balancing lightheartedness and dramatic flair, they knew their recipe for a viral video.

The grand finale of the video includes a dramatic display with smoke machines and flashing lights, sending things off with a bang.

A SWAT officer is seen lip-syncing atop an armored vehicle, making sure the send-off is flashy.

And that commitment to the bit is what hooked in their viewers.

The high-energy ending left a lasting impression on viewers, ensuring the video’s success as a viral sketch
