If you travel to New York, you’ll be greeted by the sight of city skylines, busy streets, the occasional sewer rat, and a very diverse population.

New York’s the center of action in movies for a reason.

New Yorkers are like choosing an M&M color without looking inside the bag. You could end up with anything.

This street performer was out socializing with strangers and filming content for his YouTube channel.

Guitaro5000, whose real name is Reggie, loves music. As you guessed from his name, he’s a very proficient guitar player.

And today, he met a stranger who reminded him how much music brings people together.

A lady in glasses and a checkerboard coat came up. She was dressed for the daily commute.

Beside Guitaro5000 was a chalkboard sign that read “Sing with me for free”, and the fact that she approached them meant she was probably in a musical mood.

Her name is Katie Smith.

She works down the street and saw Reggie from the window.

Katie is originally from California. She moved to NYC to work and see what life was like here. While she likes it here, she doesn’t plan to stay here her whole life.

She’s also been singing her whole life, so she was a bit confident in taking up the offer on Reggie’s sign.

Song choice is provided by a list that Reggie has. These are all the songs he knows how to play, and volunteer singers can just choose one from the list.

Katie browsed through it, asking if he had any Alicia Keys songs. Reggie fortunately knew a few, which was great news for Katie.

Which Alicia Keys song was it gonna be? How about “If I Ain’t Got You”?

If I Ain’t Got You is a fantastic R&B track that singers love to cover.

It’s also a great song for Katie to show off her voice with.

Alicia Keys’ hit song is all about how material wealth can never make us as happy as having someone who loves us.

She penned it right after the death of singer Aaliyah, so there’s a lot of emotion in this song.

Reggie begins playing the opening scale of the song, and Katie’s voice is as ready as it’s ever been.

She nails the intro from the word ‘go’ with a wonderful tone and she doesn’t miss a note.

Katie makes the bridge and pre-chorus sound so easy.

She wasn’t joking when she said she’d been singing her whole life.

Now, a reasonably-sized crowd starts tuning in to the little live performance on the street.

Katie has earned every single bystander in the audience.

Her voice is nothing short of fantastic. And that’s not the end of it.

After a round of applause and some encouragement from Reggie, she’s up for another song. “Hello” by Adele.

Katie wasn’t prepared for a second song, but she did it so well that you’d think she was ready.

She clearly maintains her voice and nails the chorus of Adele’s hit just as well as the last song.

Reggie is incredibly happy that he met such a great musician out in NYC.

The bystander audience is also thrilled to have witnessed such a great show, all for free in the streets.
