What were you doing when you were 9-years-old? I was probably out in the woods with pine sap all over my hands and my clothes an absolute wreck! Most of us spend our childhood doing the wildest things. For one girl, however, stardom seems to be where she is heading!
Amira Willighagen is proof that kids are some of the most talented people in this world.
Christmas has to be the best time of year! The food, fun, and family all come together, with Christmas music acting as the glue to hold it all together. The nostalgia and warm feeling that comes with the season is probably what makes it so special! For Amira, Christmas music isn’t just a fun thing to sing along to in the car – it’s her path to fame!
Not long ago, Amira performer her own rendition of “O Holy Night” and had the crowd shocked.
There are fun and festive Christmas songs like Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and somber ones, like Silent Night and Christmas Shoes. They each have their place and accompanying mood. For Amira, somber was the way to go for her performance!
Born in 2004 (weird, right?), Amira won the 6th season of Holland’s Got Talent when she was 9-years-old.
Since then, she has been touring in The Netherlands and even South Africa! She hasn’t let her fame go to her head, either. Half of the proceeds from her South African tours are reinvested back into the country, primarily through building playgrounds in the poorer towns that don’t have anything for the kids to do.
She decided to perform a Christmas special for a Dutch woman that was turning 105-years-old!
In that performance, Amira garnered over 7 million views and further won the heart of her nation. It was in this performance that she sang “O Holy Night” in that angelic voice.
When the lights lift and the piano starts, we hear her incredible voice.
While you might expect a voice coming from a child to be uncertain or wavering, Amira’s has none of it. She is confident and powerful in the way she opens the classic song. Part of her voice’s uniqueness is her ability to control her vibrato (the moments where it sounds like she is singing for the Opera)!
With slow grace, she continues with her song.
The event was held in the beautiful St. Jacobs Church and looked like a ball or dance from a movie! Amira must love being in such beautiful places that remind you of a Disney film.
The part that everyone’s waiting for? She nails it.
The song’s ending lyrics usually have the singer giving a final and powerful push to sing, “O’ night… O NIGHT” that nobody, I don’t care who you are, NOBODY, can resists trying to hit the notes with the singer.
As she finishes, the crowd erupts in cheers for a child who performed worthy of any adult.
You can’t help but love Amira! She does such a great job singing and even helps in the places that she can. For a 9-year-old, you can’t ask much else, especially when you remember what you were doing at that age!
Listen below to her heavenly voice!
