The Norwegian University of Science and Technology Music Department made this incredibly cinematic music video for their rendition of the Christmas Classic.
The video opens with dramatic landscapes and technologically complex shots, with drones and cranes. It’s practically like stepping into Narnia!
As we enter this winter wonderland, we see our drummer walking through deep snow, and plenty of tall spruce trees.
See, I told you the pun would pay off!
Some of the cast stand outside a barn while they sing the first verse. How cool are their outfits?
In traditional garb, this video sets the tone of Christmases gone-by. They wear hats that some might consider silly, but regardless we start to get a feel that they really went all-out to produce this video, even sourcing these outfits from days of old. Setting the video in this time gives the whole video a real sense of the tradition of Christmas.
As you can see, it must be Cold with a capital C!
Those are some noses red enough to give Rudolf a run for his money! Everyone singing seems not to notice however as they pour their hearts into the song. I hope they got a warm coat and a cup of cocoa between takes!
After the first few verses our drummer begins! Still stepping through the (Narnia-like) wilderness, she bangs on the drum in a military-esque rhythm.
As our drummer steps through, I still can’t help but hope that they’ve got a crew with warm clothes to jump in as soon as they yell cut! Imagine back in the day when people had to walk around with just a short cape and a dress. No thanks! I’d take a winter coat and a thick pair of mittens before I go anywhere!

How cool are all these special effects that go into the various sequences in this video?
Toward the end of the video the entire company of singers all congregate in front of a Christmas tree that would give the Rockefeller Center a scare!
They must need one heck of a ladder to place the star up there! I don’t know if they had helicopters in medieval Norway, but whoever has to climb that tree would have their work cut out for them!
As the video ends, we swoop away from the scene with the entire company of singers all lined up. This is such a talented group of musicians, singers, and filmmakers who all came together to produce an eye-wateringly spectacular video of one of Christmas’s most memorable tunes.
