Noah Thompson, 19, a construction worker, loves his job. He’s also very good with his work.
When Noah has spare time, he loves playing music, and everyone knows how good he is.
Noah said that when he was a kid, his dream was to play music and be famous, though, upon growing up, his dream became a distant memory for him.
“Where I’m from, you don’t really get much opportunity,” said Noah.
Noah didn’t pursue his dream. He would sing for everyone, but that’s it.
“My family, they believe in me. The guys I work with believe in me. I’ve just never believed in myself,” said Noah in his American Idol interview.
What Noah didn’t know was that his best friend, Arthur, signed him up for the prestigious American Idol.
According to Arthur, Noah doesn’t see how good he is. He doesn’t see what future he has.
“He was not born to be working with us,” said Arthur.
The 19-year-old construction worker from Lawrence County arrived at the stage of American Idol last Feb. 27, 2022.
Thompson told the judges that it was not his idea to audition, but he was there, so he sang “Giving You Up” by Kameron Marlowe.
When he started singing, you would see and hear why everyone wanted him to audition. He had a beautiful voice, and what made it unique was his southern twang.
Listening to Noah sing, you would understand why his friends pushed him to audition in American Idol.
Sometimes, we don’t see our own beauty and talent.
Near the end of his performance, judge Luke Bryan interrupted him.
“Alright, Noah, I don’t want to touch your accent,” Bryan said. “I don’t want to touch it — but be a little more deliberate with the lyrics.”
Noah gave the chorus one more try, and after he sang, Bryan said it was “perfect.”
When it was Lionel Richie’s turn, he gave Noah a short but beautiful compliment.
“You’ve got a real life storytelling bada** voice. It’s believable,” Richie said with a smile.
Noah smiled and said that he didn’t expect that.
Out of curiosity, the judges asked about Noah’s friend. He said Arthur was there with him, so they asked him to come on stage.
They didn’t say a word, and they were serious when Arthur came in. They asked Arthur why he signed Noah up for the audition.
“He’s got so much talent man, other contestants, they’ve had vocal training, man, and they’d do these crazy warm-ups and this is just straight raw right here. No training, we don’t warm up.”
Everyone laughed because he was telling the truth.

“Hey, Arthur. Everything you’re saying is a kind of how you mess around and become a manager,” Bryan joked, and everyone laughed so hard.
It looks like Arthur also has a new career.
“You are the American dream,” judge, Katy Perry, told Noah.

Then Katy looked at Arthur and thanked him for being such a good friend to Noah.
“Thank you, Arthur, for seeing him better than he could see himself,” she told his friend.
All three judges gave Noah a “yes,” and he will go to the next round.

The judges joked around and told Arthur to be a manager and choose the card for Noah.
