You don’t often see a lot of instrumentalists make it very far with these competition shows. For whatever reason, they just don’t seem to make it very far in the eyes of the judges.
However, on occasion, one makes it through to the big stage, and it’s usually something totally spectacular.
When Nicholas Bryant steps onto the stage, it seems like it’ll just be him and the grand piano behind him. There’s nothing that hints that Nick has got anything up his sleeve to really wow the judges except his piano playing skills.
Simon isn’t so sure about him when he steps onto the stage. You can tell by the glances he gives to the other judges that he already thinks that this isn’t going to be his cup of tea.
Nicholas takes a seat at the grand piano and starts to play Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now,” it all seems like it’s going to be a pretty tame and quaint performance.
But, all of a sudden, a violinist wanders onto the stage to join in. Everyone in the audience is confused, thinking, maybe she’s lost?
Some of the audience is keen on the surprise, though, because they’re a part of it as well!
An entire horn section pops up from the seats right behind the judges, to join in, along with a whole choir of folks to sing the actual lyrics.
The judges leer around in their seats in order to be able to see and try to take in what’s happening.
One after another, more and more groups reveal themselves as a part o the act. From a high balcony, a lone guitarist takes a solo and blows everyone away.
What a performance! The judges clearly had no idea that this was about to happen, and they jump to their feet once the final note has rung out.
It’s hard to imagine how they’ll be able to top this with their next performance. Now that the element of surprise is gone, it’s hard to see how this might work a second time. I suppose that that’s something they’ll have to prove for themselves!
What did you think of this rendition of “Don’t Stop Me Now?” Were you surprised to see these folks popping up left and right? Do you think that they did this Queen hit the justice that it deserves? Nicholas did a pretty good job of keeping his poker face on before the performance, that’s for darn sure.
The audience definitely loved it!
I wonder how difficult it was to keep this a secret from the judges… those folks up front with the brass instruments must have had to be super sneaky in order to keep the surprise intact.
It’s not every day you see an act like this on a stage so big. Normally, a flash mob like this takes place in a subway station or a park. It’s quite exciting to see it on a scale like this, don’t you think?
Now, to prove themselves again!
