There are some wedding traditions that pretty much always stay the same.

However, when bride and groom Monika and Dawid got married recently, they did something completely out of the ordinary.

Instead of choosing a romantic slow song for their first dance as newlyweds, they opted for something a little more upbeat — Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog”. It’s a rock n’ roll track that we’ve all heard before. Although, probably not as a first dance song at a wedding.

Monica and Dawid decided to really mix things up and the end result was nothing short of spectacular.

The video of their epic wedding dance has been viewed over a million times and liked by thousands of people all across the world.

When the two of them showed up at the reception for their grand entrance, they were wearing classic 1950s clothing.

Monika had on a red polka dot dress complete with a matching headband. Meanwhile, Dawid was rocking some classy red suspenders.

All of their friends and family applauded them as they glided to the middle of the dance floor.

They were all gathered around in a big circle cheering the newlyweds on. Then the music started.

“You ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog
Cryin’ all the time
Well, you ain’t never caught a rabbit and you ain’t no friend of mine”

Everyone was so surprised.

It was such a random choice for a first dance song. Most people choose a song with lyrics that are much more lovey-dovey. For example, two of the most popular wedding songs in recent years have been “All Of Me” by John Legend and “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz.

However, “Hound Dog” boasts lyrics that celebrate unfaithfulness and complaining. It was a very bold choice, yet, it turned out to be a great decision. It’s actually a really fun track to dance to.

Monika went running over and immediately jumped up into Dawid’s arms.

He picked her up and swung her all over the place.

Then they both kicked their legs left to right and began really rocking and grooving.

The whole performance was really well choreographed. We imagine that it must have taken the couple hundreds of hours of practice to prepare. Doing complicated moves like that isn’t easy and takes a lot of strength.

Some of their dance moves were just plain hilarious too, in a good way.

For example, when they did the Batusi. It’s a move that was invented in the original Batman movie from 1966. It involves making a peace sign or v-shape with your index and middle fingers and passing them in front of your eyes.

Other moves they did were similar to swing dancing or the jitterbug and involved spinning each other around in circles.

Multiple times throughout the performance, Monika even flew between both of Dawid’s legs.

Then, at the end of the performance, the opposite happened.

Dawid jumped completely over Monika’s head!

It was so cool to watch and all of the wedding attendees definitely agreed as well. As the newlyweds finished, everyone erupted into applause. All in all, it was one of the most creative first dances that we have ever seen.

We love it when couples dare to break from the mold of traditional weddings and do their own thing. It makes it seem that much more special. They had a first dance that was fun, unique, and extremely memorable. Now, the video is something that they’ll be able to cherish for the rest of their lives.
