Imagine a young boy, full of dreams and aspirations, getting the chance to perform on stage with his idol, the person who inspired him to pursue a career in rock music.
This was the reality for Ryan, a young aspiring musician, when he shared the stage with Danny Jones of McFly.
It was a moment that Ryan had been dreaming of for a long time.
Ryan, eager to impress Danny Jones, chose a song that he believed would resonate with the McFly frontman.
He decided on Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark.”
Despite his nerves causing his voice to waver slightly, Ryan bravely performed for the audience, embodying the spirit of a true rock star.
“Dancing in the Dark” is a song that Springsteen wrote during a period of frustration.
He was already a successful musician, but he was struggling to write a hit single that would please his audience.
This struggle was exacerbated by his manager, Jon Landau, who was pressuring him to produce a hit.
After a heated exchange with Landau, Springsteen sat down and wrote the song in a single night.
It was a classic example of a manager or record executive pushing an artist to their creative limits.
The song, a product of Springsteen’s frustration, was indeed a huge hit on his album “Born in the USA.”
It was such a hit that even young Ryan Lofthouse from Stanley Crook, County Durham, knew it would grab the attention of the coaches on The Voice Kids.
Ryan put his unique spin on the Springsteen classic, and Danny Jones was thoroughly impressed.
The highlight of the performance was when Danny hit his red button and spun around in his chair, signaling his approval.
This was the moment Ryan had been hoping for.
The joy on the faces of his family members was palpable.
After the performance, Danny joined Ryan on stage to play a McFly song called “Obviously,” much to the delight of the young fan.
Reflecting on his experience, Ryan said,
“The Voice was an amazing experience. I’ve met so many amazing people. It’s so fun to just be there and experience it all.”
Ryan, a student at Parkside Academy in Willington, was supported by his mom Carolyn, dad Mal, twin brother Tom, and younger brother Declan, 10.
Carolyn was ecstatic, clapping and jumping as her son lived his dream.
She said,
“It was a dream come true for him. He wanted to go on because he’s a huge McFly fan so it’s like he’s already won. It was an incredible experience.”
Carolyn further shared,
“When we went in he was sat on the side of the stage he said he was nervous but after he did his rehearsal he came back and said it was more scary looking at the stage than being on it.”
Ryan’s love for music and performing was evident.
As the song goes,
“You can’t start a fire worrying about your little world falling apart.”
Ryan, who enjoys busking on the streets of Newcastle, is hopeful for a bright future in music.
His joy and passion are infectious, making his performance a must-watch.
