“All Together Now” is a British TV show that’s famous for having the largest judging panel on TV.
This singing competition features a panel of 100 singers and music experts from every corner of the music industry. The goal for the singers is to get as many judges as possible to vote for them. Each week, the three singers who get the most votes move onto the next round of the competition. The singer who wins in the finals week gets the grand prize of £50,000.
A singer named Norbert Bondin decided to try his luck performing for The 100.
Norbert is originally from Malta, but he now lives in London. Norbert started doing singing competitions when he was a teenager, and he won Net-TV’s Teen Singing Challenge.
In an interview before his performance, Norbert explained that he sometimes stutters when he’s nervous.
“I love singing mostly because it makes me feel so good about myself. And most importantly, it makes me speak smoothly,” Norbert said.
After his interview, Norbert nervously walked up to the microphone. He faced the panel of 100 judges and introduced himself. Since he was anxious, he stuttered a bit as he said his name. Still, he didn’t let that phase him. He took a deep breath and began singing “Say Something” by Great Big World.
Norbert’s voice was high, clear, and beautiful. The judges all absolutely loved it!
The audience and the judges all cheered for Norbert. The judges also quickly started hitting their buzzers, and their squares turned from red to gold to indicate they had voted yes. The judges also stood after they voted yes and sang along with Norbert.
As Norbert sang his heart out, more and more judges voted for him. Norbert needed 75 votes to make it to the next round, and he easily passed that number!
When Norbert finished singing, he had 92 votes! Norbert smiled widely when he saw that number and realized he would move on.
“All Together Now’s” host, Rob Beckett, interviewed a few of the judges who voted for Norbert. This included Tracey, a notoriously tough judge. Tracey said Norbert’s performance had brought her to tears.
“As soon as you started singing it was ‘oh my god,’ and I am the tough one. I was like, what have you done to me?’ But it was lovely, it was lovely,” Tracey said.
Although Norbert did amazingly well, he didn’t end up winning on the night he performed. After Norbert went, a musical theater actress named Jodie Steele performed the Whitney Houston song “All Together Now,” and she ended up getting 97 votes. Still, Norbert got second place, which allowed him to move onto the next round of the competition!
