Over the years, this show has introduced us to a fascinating array of contestants.

Every participant who steps onto these stages is bound to experience some degree of nervousness.

However, some contestants are noticeably more anxious than others.

This was the case with 21-year-old Jahmene Douglas, who appeared on The X Factor UK.

His nervousness was palpable as he took the stage.

Dressed in a full suit, Douglas introduced himself to the judges, clearly aiming to make a positive first impression.

Despite his aspirations to become a professional singer, he revealed that his primary job was working at a supermarket, where he was responsible for marking down products nearing their expiration date.

Following his brief introduction, the judges gave him the floor to perform.

Douglas chose to sing “At Last” by Etta James, a notoriously challenging and soulful song from an American jazz legend.

As soon as the first notes of the backing music began, Douglas launched into the song.

From the outset, he hit a powerful high note, adding his own unique vibrato and spin to it.

This immediately caught the judges’ attention, but Douglas was just getting started.

Despite the song originally being performed by a woman, Douglas proved he was more than capable of matching her vocal prowess and making the song his own.

As he progressed, he incorporated his own trills and vocalizations, causing the judges to exchange glances, their arms covered in goosebumps.

Overwhelmed by the audience’s love, Douglas was visibly moved. Once the applause subsided, it was time for the judges to provide their feedback.

Douglas continued to reach higher and higher notes, hitting a few towards the end that seemed impossibly high.

Before the song concluded, he received several spontaneous rounds of applause.

When he finally finished, the audience rose to their feet, rewarding him with a standing ovation.

From the start, all comments were positive. Despite his initial timid demeanor, the judges acknowledged his undeniable talent and star quality.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and Douglas received the four ‘yes’ votes he needed to proceed in the competition.
