Do you remember the worldwide craze over Psy’s 2012 smash hit song “Gangnam Style”?

The dance itself became as much of a phenomenon as the song did!

Naturally, such popularity calls for some comedy—and these U.S. soldiers were more than up to the challenge.

Psy, the man behind the catchy dance, described the choreography behind the song like this:

“The mindset of this dance is to dress classy and dance cheesy.”

That seems right to us!

Apparently, you just have to imagine that you’re on a horse and you’re about to step down.

Do it with your right foot first and then your left foot, and then repeat the whole thing all over again. Remember to keep your hands in a position as if you were riding a horse—and you can spice it up with some lassoing motions! For those who don’t know, the “Gangnam Style” video was the first YouTube video to reach one billion views. The song’s title refers to the trendy lifestyle of people who live in the Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea.

Who could resist the entertaining dance routine?

Before long after the song came out, everyone began filming their versions of the Gangnam dance—and the soldiers in Afghanistan were no exception. The US Navy and Marine Corps Medical Unit assigned to Helmand Province in Afghanistan decided to make a Gangnam parody and dedicate it to all of their colleagues “who go outside the wire to fight for the freedom.”

A special thanks were also given to the Army Dustoff Unit, who were assigned at the same location.

Yes, these guys work hard and they know when it’s time to get down to business—but it’s what they did in their spare time that made millions of people laugh. It’s a nice distraction from all the difficulty of military service, after all.

It’s simply hilarious, from the beginning until the very end.

By now, almost everyone knows that the original video begins with Psy laying on the beach with sunglasses on and a beautiful girl waving a fan above his face. Well, in this video, you also get all the sand you need—it’s not exactly the beach sand, but everything else is on point. The soldier is laying in the sun, and his facial expressions are hilarious.

Obviously he’s sporting some colorful sunglasses, and those Crocs he’s wearing are a highlight!

The video is a mix of different clips. They recreated every scene from Psy’s video, and we have to admire the effort they put in!

We can’t forget the scene at the “sauna” either!

We loved how they managed to portray their lifestyle through the parody.

Gangnam District might be known as high class and trendy, but a war zone is the complete opposite. Still, it all came together perfectly, and we learned a thing or two about the everyday life of brave fighters in Afghanistan.

The video was viewed more than five million times, and you can see that the good mood has spread all over the comments section.

It’s nice to see these brave people having a sense of humor, even though they’re risking their lives.
