We don’t have to give you another reason to love the men and women that serve our defend our country. But as it turns out – the list of reasons to love them just keep growing, as you’ll soon see why.

Most people associate the military as being very serious and strict. But, as you’ll find out, there’s definitely some fun and silliness thrown in from time to time as well.

The U.S. Navy Band, along with their choir group the Sea Chanters, performed an amazing medley of songs from the Broadway play “Jersey Boys.”

This incredible performance took place in 2014 at the Concerts on the Avenue series at the U.S. Navy Memorial. It’s a moment that has been etched in people’s minds for years because it’s so happy and amazingly performed.

The Sea Chanters was actually formed back in 1956 by Lt. Harold Fultz. He first invited a group from the Navy School of Music to sing patriotic songs for the State of the Nation dinner. Now, the U.S. Navy actually has seven ensembles: the Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, Sea Chanters, Commodores, Country Current, Cruisers, and Chamber Ensembles.

The Sea Chanters have been known to sing everything from opera to contemporary to Broadway hits – as you’re about to see below.

The Navy says that the main focus of the Sea Chanters is to “inspire patriotism, elevate esprit de corps, enhance Navy awareness and public relations, … and project a positive image at home and abroad.”

“Throughout their history, the Sea Chanters have remained true to the Navy’s watchwords of pride and professionalism, and they continue to flourish as a vibrant ensemble,” the Navy continued.

The show that everyone will love for decades to come was their 2014 performance.

Backed by the U.S. Navy band, the Sea Chanters took the stage in their white Navy uniforms. The performance started and the entire audience is absolutely in love – they were doing a medley of songs from the award-winning Broadway show ‘Jersey Boys’!

In case you’re unfamiliar, Jersey Boys won a Tony award and it’s a jukebox musical that documents the 1960s doo-wop group The Four Seasons. The plot and songs document the group’s rise to success as well as their eventual break-up.

Singing hit after hit, the Sea Chanters kept the audience cheering, dancing, and smiling with songs like “Sherry Baby,” “Rag Doll,” and “December 1963 (Oh, What a Night).”

The impressive performance included impeccable voices and pitch, as well as fun yet precise dance moves.

The original singer of The Four Seasons, Frankie Valli, had a voice that was so high-pitched it became what he was known for. So, trying to mimic this voice without butchering it is incredibly hard to do! But, somehow, the Sea Chanters pull it off with charm and ease.

The most well-known song, “Oh, What a Night,” came at the very end of their spectacular production and the audience couldn’t help but clap along the entire time. People of all ages were singing along to this well-known classic. All the while, the singer is backed by well-choreographed back-up dancers. So fun!
