When you were a little kid, were you interested in music?
For many of us, our first exposure to music is either through piano and guitar lessons, or through music class where we learn how to sing or maybe play a recorder.
Though these disciplines often fall by the wayside as we get older, some people have a burning passion for these topics early on and never let them go—they make them their life’s defining dream. And some people even have the courage to follow that dream as children.
That was definitely the case for this performance on Britain’s Got Talent.
The audition came from the show’s very first season in 2007.
The performer was Natalie Okri, an adorable little girl who was only 10 years old. As she explains, she’s been singing since she was only four.
As she explains, it’s her biggest dream in the whole world to be a singer and a diva—just like Beyoncé! After introducing herself to the judges, she tells everyone that she’ll be singing “No One” by Alicia Keys. After that, everyone clears the way so that she can share her talents with the world.
With that, the techs backstage start playing her music and the crowd starts clapping.
A moment later Okri starts singing—and her voice is so adorable and infectious.
Judge Simon Cowell has a smile on his face immediately! Even though Okri is only 10 years old, her voice is still very accurate and she has seemingly no trouble at all singing the song she chose.
As the camera pans out into the audience, it’s clear that everyone else in the crowd is also completely charmed by this little girl. Even as the song gets more difficult to sing and it changes melodically, Okri keeps up with it without any trouble.
By that point, the audience starts getting on their feet and clapping along with her!
When the performance is over, all the judges get on their feet as well and give her a big round of applause!
As the judges explain, Okri is a very little girl but she has a very big voice! As the judges go down the line, they all give her their compliments and say that she’s incredible—and so, so adorable.
At the end of tit all, Okri gets four yeses from the judges! Though this performance happened a long time ago, Okri never gave up on her dreams of singing and being a star.
In fact, she is now all grown up and has her own YouTube channel.
Although it’s difficult to break through on the internet, Okri is still at it—and her voice is still as good as ever.
Though she still a ways to go, her music video for her song “Don’t You Dare” has more than 100,000 views and is her most popular video thus far:
Needless to say, the Got Talent franchise continues to be a great place to discover talent and launch careers!
Above all, it’s definitely inspiring to see people pursuing their dreams wholeheartedly—especially at such a young age.
