In 1997, a little film by the name of “Titanic” broke the hearts of cinema goers the world over. Now, even 23 years later, the heartbreaking emotion of the film can come rushing back with just a few seconds of one particular song. “My Heart Will Go On”, performed by Celine Dion for the main theme for the film has now become a classic love song that has found a life larger than just the film.

Just think how many “first dances” at weddings have been to this iconic song!

But what if you completely shook that up to be fun and upbeat?

Introducing: Postmodern Jukebox. The foremost experts in turning modern pop songs into jivey, old time music. They take songs such as “Stacy’s Mom”, or “Hit ‘Em Up style” and transform them into mid-twentieth century jams!

This particular jive-tastic rendition of Celine Dion’s classic love song is the most fun you can have with a slow ballad!

And believe me, it’s not so slow when these guys are done with it!

Leading this bombastic band, is lead vocalist Mykal Kilgore.

This guy is simply incredible. His high-energy vocal gymnastics are a world apart from Celine’s, and he brings such a spunky style to what is normally a far more ballad-like song. If you want to turn a heartfelt love song into something that will make you want to get up and dance, this is your guy.

Not to mention the band!

In the background, we have one heck of a pianist! You can’t very well have a 1950’s Jackie Wilson style song without a fast-fingered pianist tickling those ivories. Of course, in keeping with the aesthetic, he’s got a jaunty little hat too.

Then, there’s the bass and guitar!

They fill out the sound, with the steady, rocking beat of a bygone era, strumming and plucking along with the background singers and Mykal. How much fun can you even have with such a well-known song? Apparently a LOT!

And how much style can you have?

Well, if you’re the kind of musician who can take a modern pop song, and with your knowledge of older music genres completely transpose them, then probably a boat-load! Usually Celine’s version would make you cry, but this one makes you dance!

As one viewer comments:

“Imagine the ship sinking and this song sounding”- Caco Iglesias
Well, if it were playing like this, it may have been a very different vibe!

Take it away, with a bass solo!

When everyone stops for a brief bass solo break, the bassist treats us all to a few fancy licks. Now that’s how you do it!
