There’s a plethora of songs out there about cheating and jealousy, but I doubt any are as iconic as Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” – save for maybe Escape by Rupert Holmes.

We all know how the song goes. Jolene’s beauty is beyond compare, and Parton pleas for her not to take her man.

It begs the question what this Jolene lady really looked like. Dolly Parton is a pretty good-looking woman herself, and yet she sings about this mysterious, auburn-haired beauty who could even eclipse her?

Jolene even has Parton’s man talking in his sleep. So Parton clearly made no small deal about her. The song is even the namesake Jolyne Kujo from the hit manga series Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Almost 50 years later, a small-time girl group from Mississippi decided to end the saga with Jolene with an original song.

This is Chapel Hart. They’re made up of sisters Danica and Devynn Hart, and their cousin Trea Swindle. They got their start singing on the streets of New Orleans.

Simon wonders if the girls are trying to be the next big American girl group, and the ladies love the idea. Danica’s even ready to play the diva role.

And musical groups made of relatives have a pretty good track record. Hanson, Haim, The Jackson 5, and The Bee Gees just to name a couple. Heck, even Kevin Richardson and Brian Litrell of The Backstreet Boys are cousins.

Chapel Hart’s big moment came when they performed their original song “You Can Have Him, Jolene” on America’s Got Talent.

Danica tells the judges what their song is about. “From 1973 to 2020, we cannot still be fighting over the same man.”

It’s hard to argue with her.

After over 40 years, you’d think Dolly would have gotten over her rather disloyal man in the song.

Besides, any man who’d cheat on Dolly Parton isn’t worth having around.

So they treat the judges to this original song of theirs, and it’s a hit. Not only are their voices spectacular, but the songwriting is fantastic too.

“Well, I’m tired of second chances, and these sad-ass circumstances/He’s your problem, good luck keepin’ him home” is a pretty clever lyric, much like the rest of the song.

It wasn’t just a hit with the ATG crowd. Dolly herself saw it and adored it, and that’s what really made the girls go crazy.

Dolly Parton loved the new spin on her song. Anyone can do a cover, but to write a fully original continuation to another song is something else. Chapel Hart earned the praise they got, especially from Dolly.

She tweeted about it on her husband’s birthday, and joked that she’ll keep the celebration a secret from Jolene.

Dolly is happily married to a loyal husband. No amount of beauty and auburn hair will make him change his mind.

Chapel Hart have made it no secret that they idolize Dolly Parton, so that recognition sent them over the moon.

“Can someone call the mortician, cause we just died a little bit” they said in a Tweet.
