Anthem Lights is an American Christian band known for their soulful sound. When they need a director for their music videos, Carl is their guy.
A few years ago, Carl asked the band if they could help him propose to his girlfriend Kristian in a unique way.
As you can imagine, the members immediately said yes and jumped into the occasion. In the video’s on-screen text, Carl explains the premise:
“I asked Kristian to come help out on set and to be an extra in the music video for Anthem Lights I was directing at 6PM.”
“This is her musical journey.”
When Kristian arrives at the set, she has no idea Carl has transformed the entire building for a surreal, proposal surprise.
When she opens the door, she’s immediately greeted by a lady who guides her to the back room. She must have a feeling something’s going on because you see her glace at the cameraman awkwardly.
Taking Kristian’s hand, the woman guides her to a dark hallway, dimly lit by two rows of candles.
She’s then shown to open door, which reveals an artist sitting at a piano, singing Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me”
The woman sings a few lines of the song before the guide grabs Kristian’s hand and the music shifts to John Legend’s ‘All of Me.”
She’s now taken to another door where a dreadlocked man sings her lines from this love song, as well.
Each room is more or less empty aside from the performer who sings directly to Kristian.
As she explores each different area, it feels like a real-life, musical multi-verse.
The medley of songs includes romantic hits such as “Lucky” by Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz, “Just The Way You Are” by Bruno Mars, and “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.
Each singer sings to Kristian like she’s the only person who matters— and on this musical journey, they’re not entirely wrong.
When she reaches the end of the hallway, Kristian sees a candle-lit path guiding her to Carl. The song “Marry Me” by Train plays in the background.
If you’ve been lucky enough to hold in the tears, this is where you will break down. The entire situation is so incredibly unique and romantic. It’s rare to see someone take the time for such an elaborate surprise.
Since being uploaded to YouTube, Carl’s “Musical Journey” Proposal has been admired thousands of times.
