Figure skating is probably one of the most gorgeous sports, and we are fans of it because of how beautiful it is.
Though skaters make it seem effortless, it’s quite hard, and injuries can be brutal on the body.
It’s about telling a story—complete with beautiful costumes, impressive tricks and spins on ice.
To that point, we bring you an epic performance on ice by two gold medallists.
The performance is as graceful as it gets!
Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are both retired Canadian dancers.
Most importantly, they are the 2010 and 2018 Olympic champions. This is the video of their 2018 epic performance from the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Words aren’t enough to describe just how amazing their act on ice is. Tessa and Scott used the music from the movie Moulin Rouge and paired their choreography to it.
Seeing the two of them sliding across the ice made us think of how many hours and weeks it took to practice all that to perfection!
They make it look as if they were dancing on ice—we’ve never seen so much confidence when performing. It’s catchy, and your eyes will be glued to the screen the whole time.
The pair was inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Then again, in 2018, they were inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in the Sports and Athletics category.
After 22 years as ice dancing partners, Tessa and Scott stepped away from the sport in 2019.
It was the first time that music with lyrics was allowed at the Winter Olympic Games.
If you think of soft instrumental music every time you think of figure skating, guess what? You’re not the only one.
It’s a common thing, but times are changing. After it had been allowed for years in other competitions, in 2018, music with lyrics was finally allowed at the Winter Olympic Games.
The two appear completely calm on ice, and their every movement has got perfect timing.
The first move when they hit the beat in unison will give you chills—and wait for the lift around 2:30 moment! It’s very beautiful and almost seems as if it shouldn’t be possible. The piano scale playing in sync with the move turns it into something magical.
Everything is thought through the routine, from their costumes to the way they use the space.
The only spontaneous and completely enthralling moment is the hug they share in the end. That’s the hug of happiness, after achieving something you’ve worked so hard for.
We have to say, these are some well-deserved gold medals!
These two Canadian wizards on ice won the gold.
It didn’t come as a surprise, since they had an elaborated choreography with several surprising elements, and it followed the music perfectly. Their facial expressions tell a whole story of just how much they enjoy being on the ice and competing. In 2010, the pair published a book about their career, called Tessa and Scott: Our Journey from Childhood Dream to Gold.
Since the clip was uploaded, it has earned more than eight million views on YouTube.
They never stopped working, not even after retirement.
Tessa and Scott filmed their TV show in 2013, and co-produced and skated in their ice skating show in 2018. Both have been sponsored by many Canadian companies, and we’re happy to see them still going strong after the retirement.
