Wedding receptions aren’t all about food, fun, and Aunt Rita swinging from the rafters. There can be a lot of tears too as guests listen to speeches and watch the heart-tugging dances.
During one couple’s wedding reception, everyone had their tissues out when groom Blake and his mom Kathy took the dance floor. But little did they know the pair had a trick up their sleeve that was gonna turn things upside down!
Brides and grooms usually put a lot of thought into which songs to use for their traditional dances. After all, when it comes to their parents, it’s a way to honor them during the monumental event.
In the video below, the crowd watches as Blake and Kathy begin slow dancing to Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.”
Yet, just as you think it can’t get any more tear-jerking, the music suddenly comes to a halt.
Kathy and Blake seem upset about their interrupted dance at first. Come on DJ, you had one job!
As it turns out though, these tricksters are fooling everyone about it all. Suddenly, the classic Jackson 5 song, “I Want You Back” comes blasting through the speakers and the duo goes into action.
Quickly it becomes a high-energy, synchronized dance with moves straight from the early 1970s. Guests can’t help but cheer watching the unexpected performance.
They were just getting started… It was time to move up another couple of decades!
A wedding reception wouldn’t be complete without MC Hammer’s, “U Can’t Touch This,” but typically, the mother-of-the-groom isn’t the one busting a move to it. That’s why these guests were in for a special treat.
When the 1990 track fills the banquet hall, Kathy and Blake break out dancing like they were auditioning for the music video. Hopefully, there were buckets of water ready because they were on fire!
They’re not the only ones to put a spin on their wedding dance.
If you explore the internet, you can find all kinds of performances from people who were looking to add more fun to their reception. Instead of making their guests cry, many brides and grooms are leaving jaws on the floor instead.
For those who are a little more traditional though – Wedding Wire has a list of songs that will leave your mom a blubbering mess. Some examples are, “Forever Young,” “Just to See You Smile,” and Van Morrison’s “Days Like This.”
After their “Hammer Time” was over, Kathy and Blake were ready to kick the party up another notch.
Kathy actually seems a little winded going into their final song. However, she pulls herself together for LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem.”
The mother and son show they’ve got impressive skills dancing to the upbeat music. You gotta hand it to both of them – their feet can really fly!
Sure their slow dance was sweet, but this was truly “Unforgettable.”
Watching a groom pull his mom onto the dance floor is a sight that leaves your heart in a puddle. It’s a reminder that she should be honored for bringing him into the world and raising him into a man.
Yet, there’s something that seems extra special with Kathy and Blake’s idea. They must have spent a great deal of time practicing their dances together to get them down so well. And right before a son flies the coop – how amazing is that?
