While there are plenty of talented singers out there, there’s always new talent to discover as well.

Though we’re familiar with all kinds of American pop stars and major musical acts, the flood of reality shows tells us that there are still plenty of people across the country (and the world) trying to follow their musical dreams.

Though competing on television shows is one way to get discovered, plenty of singers also find their own way into the mainstream after having breakout performances on radio stations.

The performance we’re talking about today is one of those occasions.

The singer in question is Morissette Amon, a Filipina singer, dancer, actress and all-around performer.

She was first discovered when she was about 14 years old on Star Factor and went on to compete in the first season of The Voice of the Philippines as well.

Although she’s immensely talented, not many people in America have heard her voice before. Still, she’s had a few of her vocal performances on radio stations go viral online because they’re just that good.

One of those performances featured her singing “Rise Up” by Andra Day.

As anyone who watches American Idol or The Voice knows, “Rise Up” is an anthemic and soulful song that has been covered countless times.

People tend to gravitate towards it because of its powerful message and its inspiring spirit—but it’s definitely not easy to sing. Regardless, Amon decided she would perform it on Wish 107.5’s radio show.

As soon as the song starts, it’s clear that Amon is going to make the song all her own. Day’s voice has its own unique tone but Amon’s version is so buttery smooth through all the notes. While the performance is live, it sounds so polished and perfect that it almost seems recorded.

When she hits the chorus, her voice really soars.

Needless to say, the original performance has gotten some incredible reactions online—and it’s even been critiqued by other YouTube channels.

One popular genre of content on YouTube is the “react” genre, where people in some area react to performances in another. In particular, there’s a whole genre where vocal coaches react to especially impressive singing and see if they can find fault with it.

One channel called Tara Simon Studios did just that with Amon’s performance because the clip was garnering so much attention online.

Still, as soon as the video starts, the vocal coach seems rendered completely speechless!

As she says at the very beginning, it’s harder to sing while you’re sitting down than it is while you’re standing—but Amon has no trouble doing it at all.

As the video goes on, Simon dissects her technique but only has good things to say. Though it goes without saying, this is definitely one of the best covers of “Rise Up” that you’re likely to find out there!

While the video only has a handful of views so far, it’s only because the original clip has been taken down so many times. Before being uploaded, it had millions of views and had been shared all over the internet and it’s not hard to see why! Though we might not have heard of her before, Amon definitely has a bright future in the music industry.

Congratulations to Morissette Amon on her stunning cover of this song! Be sure to watch the entire thing in the clip below:
