We may all be tired of the pandemic and the recurrent lockdowns, but going back to early 2020, when this whole thing started, we certainly used to see things differently.
In early spring 2020, when the first lockdowns made their appearance in Europe and America, people thought this was a temporary inconvenience. They believed that in a couple of months- most probably- a vaccine or medicine would be found and we’d soon return to our normal lives.
So, many of us thought it would be a great idea- given that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity- to spend quality time at home, doing things we couldn’t do before in our busy everyday lives.
Some people took up a new foreign language, while others started cooking or working out (jogging, dancing, or even window/terrace tennis).
This way, they kept themselves busy instead of doing nothing and thinking about the current situation, while they also gave their physical health a boost, which is also useful in times of a pandemic.
All this time, we’ve seen various Instagram stories and Tik Tok videos of people who worked out, but there was one particular Twitter video a Surrey mom posted, which took the Internet by storm.
Choreographer Lizzi Gee recently posted a video of herself and her 8-year-old son tap dancing.
We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to our last video, so we decided to give you something new! Here’s an edited version of a routine we put together this weekend. Celebrating the end of homeschooling and optimism for the following months. ❤️ (LizziRufustap now on Instagram) pic.twitter.com/IDjIxfHOsU

When the first lockdown started, Lizzi found herself out of work, just like many other people. As a choreographer and teacher, she missed human contact, but she found a dance student in her son, Rufus.
“I’ve always been a tap specialist anyway,” mom Lizzi told This Morning, “and Rufus has always watched me tapping, he’s always asked me to teach him to tap [but] I never really had the time.”
So, when the lockdown happened, the two of them seized the opportunity and started dancing.
Watching them dance together today might make one believe that it’s an easy thing to do. On the contrary, it’s a dance that requires dedication and lots of hard work to master.
“It took a long, long time [to get here]” Rufus confessed during the interview. “I’ve been doing it for nine months- I started at the very beginning of the lockdown and I just bloomed fast.”
His mom was so proud of her son’s achievement that she felt like sharing with the world a little peek of their routine. And she was surprised by the impact it had on Twitter users.
“I’ve never put anything [on Twitter] that’s sort of family life […] but I thought it’s be quite nice just to put a little video of the routine we had done […] just to spread the love.”
This is my younger son Rufus. He started to learn Tap dance with me only 9 months ago. He’s 8! Using lockdown to learn. I’m a proud mum. We hope it makes you smile. Tap is joy in our eyes and has been our escapism 🥰 pic.twitter.com/5VaWmU4Ghj

Three hours after posting the video, Lizzi went to bed. At the time, the views were around 30,000. By the next day, the views had gone up to half a million and they kept increasing!
The talented duo has won over Twitter users, who are leaving positive comments on Lizzi’s Twitter account. What a proud mom she must be.
Ahhhh Lizzi you have always been such a fab tapper!!! Glad to see Rufus is following in your footsteps 🥰🥰

“A regular little Fred Astaire,” someone wrote, while someone else commented: “You have doomed your child to the finer things in life. Good job.”
