In the span of ten months, the COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the world.

At first, it only seemed like a public health concern in a single location. Over time, however, it quickly escalated to a global health emergency—and now it’s a social and economic catastrophe.

The pandemic hasn’t ended yet.

Vaccines can be procured over time, but the effects of these unfortunate events will inevitably extend over generations to come. However, despite our current situation, good things also happened to some of us, such as the possibility of turning a crisis into an opportunity. This is exactly how the father-daughter duo from Utah started their singing career.

In case you haven’t been surfing the web during this whole quarantine thing, Mat and Savanna Shaw are a daddy-daughter pair who have recently been getting traction online.

It all started when Savanna invited her dad to sing the famous song “The Prayer,” originally sung by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.

Savanna had loved the song for as long as she could remember, which is why she wanted this song to be her first ever post on Instagram.

Still, she was nervous and wanted her dad, who often sings around the house in Kaysville, to join her.

Instagram was Savanna’s first dive into social media, only because she wanted to keep in touch with her choir friends amid the pandemic.

They also posted the video on Facebook. Even so, what started as a normal song cover for their families and friends gradually grew and grew.

Since then, the view count has kept rising and rising until it surpassed seven million.

The positive feedback encouraged the duo to post more song covers.

One of them was their rendition of “A Million Dreams,” a song from the official soundtrack of the musical drama film The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Zendaya.

Since the duo posted the clip, they have earned lots of positive comments from their audience.

Everyone is in awe with their innate singing skills, how passionate they are in what they are doing and how they support each other.

Mat is so proud of Savanna, which is clear in the way he looks at his daughter with such pride!

Contrary to popular belief, Mat is not a professionally trained singer.

While your ears might be confused to know that, the reality is that he is a real estate agent.

Music has always been part of his life, but it was never the main focus. Meanwhile, his daughter Savanna is a shy girl who is a member of a youth choir in Hale Centre Theatre. Still, due to the pandemic, the girl had to find a new way to share her talent and passion for music. They explained their reasoning for posting the video like so:

“The one thing more contagious than a virus is hope and so we’re just doing our small part in the world to spread some hope.”

“It means a lot just to be able to be in a position now—especially in the times that we’re experiencing with this pandemic—to be able to share these messages of hope and encouragement through music,” Mat Shaw said.

“Never in a million dreams would we have ever thought that our music would have this kind of impact. That’s been the best part.” This family is definitely bringing hope and happiness during a time when they are in short supply!
