Cheerleaders Perform Incredible “Human Kaleidoscope” Routine

History was made in Greenville Texas when a group known as the Flaming Flashes performed during every halftime show at the school.

According to Liveabout.com, the team’s creator Gussie Nell Davis then formed a college drill team in Kilgore Texas, a well-known group by the name of The Kilgore Rangerettes. Now, it is common for schools to have drill teams to perform during sports games as cheerleading teams would.

While the goals of promoting school spirit and entertainment are the same as cheerleading, there are a few key differences.

Cheerleading tends to feature a more high-flying brand of dance, sometimes with pom-poms and cheer lines.

While cheer and drill performances may seem similar on the surface, there is a clear distinction between the two.

Another major difference being that often drill teams perform to music like many other types of dance where cheer teams may not perform to music.]

Enter stage-left! The Mercer Island High School drill team with their impressive skills!

In one incredible video the Washington State high school team perform for the Homecoming assembly to a crowd of wrapt fans. At the outset of the video, the crowd look on tentatively, not yet expecting the tightly choreographed, excellently executed drill performance to come.

Their synchronization is truly impressive!

Not one girl is out of time as the whole squad move with unbelievable precision.

The songs change a few times, notably at one point kicking into Kanye West’s “Power.” Anyone who knows this song knows that it offers a steady powerful rhythm and boy, do these dancers take advantage of it by nailing the powerful regular beat in their drill style.

While they may not be be very high-flying, their use of the floor is even cooler!

Who needs to go flying through the air to impress the crowd when you have the timing, skills and inventive choreography to make lying on the ground cool? The girls are able to flip their arms and legs in mesmerizing waves. They swivel their whole bodies in ways that dazzle the eye and create mesmerizing illusions.

Talk about squad goals, this squad is one heck of a unit!

It must be such a challenge to coordinate such a large squad of dancers in such flawless unison. I shudder to think how many hours these talented girls have spent getting these moves down to such a fine art. They have talent coming out of their ears, or at least out of their arms and legs!

I’ve heard of the Mexican wave, but the Washington Wave has a ring to it too!

Great timing in dance doesn’t just mean doing things precisely at the same time, but can mean having a precision of successive movements. Exactly on time, the girls are able to coordinate their movements between beats and create dazzling group moves that when viewed from a distance just blows your mind.

It’s hard not to want to get up and start dancing yourself as this A-1 drill team hit every beat with impressive gusto.
