If you were going to appear on a televised national talent show, what would your talent be?
For some of us, the answer might be fairly specialized. If we have experience doing gymnastics, acrobatics or some other kind of “trained” talent, we would probably stick with that.
If we were particularly good dancers, we might put on a show that way. Lastly, many of us can carry a tune at least decently well, so maybe that would be the best route to go.
Still, for anyone who doesn’t think they can do something that others can’t do, a little extra creativity is required.
Fortunately, one contestant knew exactly how to give the most memorable performance possible.
The audition we’re talking about took place on Britain’s Got Talent in 2018. Like any other audition, it begins with the contestant walking out onstage to a big round of applause to present himself to the judges.
He tell them all that his name is Micky, he’s 36 and he’s from “the beautiful city of Leeds.” He tells them that he’s a part-time teacher, though in his spare time he works on music.
Though everyone seems to think that Micky has a warm energy, nobody is quite sure what he’s going to perform.
Before he starts, he tells the crowd he’ll be performing an original piece.
The first song, he says, is called “The Absolutely Amazing Song About Traveling Around Europe That Rhymes.” Though everyone is a bit confused, there’s some laughter and he keeps performing. After that comes the words: “I’m off to Paris, in a Yaris.”
And with that, the song ends! At this, everyone in the crowd cracks up. It’s clear just what kind of performance this is going to be, and the crowd hasn’t seen anything like it before.
After that, he tells the crowd he has a sad and emotional story that he wants to sing for them.
He says that although it’s a comedy routine, this song is going to be a bit more serious.
Of course, the song isn’t serious at all—it’s a sad song about losing an expensive cloth grocery bag! The song is called “Bag for Life” and it goes on for a comically long time.
When it’s finally over, he takes a moment to banter with the audience about how the other grocery bag handles always break before wrapping up. After that, Micky plays a couple more chords and finishes up—and the crowd bursts into applause.
Needless to say, this is a performance that nobody is going to forget!
Even after so many seasons, this performance shows that the Got Talent franchise still has tons of tricks up its sleeve!
Though sometimes it takes something unique or stunning to win over an audience, Micky showed that a winning personality and a funny perspective are sometimes enough.
After seeing performance after performance on shows like this, sometimes we just want somebody who will break up the monotony and show us a little bit of personality. As it turns out, that’s exactly what Micky pulled off here.
Congratulations to Micky on winning the audience’s heart! Watch the full audition in the clip below:
