If you’re a big fan of any certain artist, you know just how incredible an experience it can be to meet them.
When we grow up, we often have big dreams about what we’re going to do with our lives and all the things we’re going to accomplish. Because of that, we view artists and stars who are bigger than life as icons we can look up to. Though we all have different people who serve that purpose, we can all agree that it’s a thrilling experience to interact with those people.
For one fan, that person was Michael Bublé.
For those who don’t know, Bublé is a hugely successful singer and songwriter who has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
Bublé’s career started as far back as 2002, when he was marketed as a singer of blue-eyed soul standards such as “Fever” and “The Way You Look Tonight.” Still, to achieve his success, Bublé started practicing early in life. He knew that he wanted to be a successful and famous singer at the age of two and even entered singing competitions when he was 18.
As it turned out, Bublé had that in common with one of his biggest fans.
Ben Fagerstedt was from Aberdeen, Washington and also had a passion for music.
The only problem for Fagerstedt is that he was very shy when he was younger. Despite this, Fagerstedt still pursued his dreams diligently by taking voice lessons, doing musical theater and carefully honing his craft. As the old saying goes, luck is when opportunity meets preparation. And Fagerstedt was about to get the opportunity of a lifetime.
That’s because he was going to a Bublé concert where he would be noticed by the singer himself.
It all started at the Tacoma Dome where Bublé was doing a major show.
Fagerstedt was close to the stage, near the front row holding a sign. Needless to say, Bublé noticed the sign and pulled it onstage, talking to Fagerstedt and his mother all the while. He even had the auditorium put the sign up on the Jumbotron!
After a few moments, he walked back over to Fagerstedt and got down so that he could get on Fagerstedt’s level. He interviewed him, asking how old he was. Fagerstedt replied that he was only 17.
Moments later, Bublé handed him the microphone so that he could sing a song.
As it turns out, Bublé often hands the microphone to audience members to sing the song they sing in the shower at his shows.
For Fagerstedt, that song was “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” by Frank Sinatra. Although Bublé is surprised by the choice, Fagerstedt sets into it all the same—and nobody can believe what happens next. After Bublé does the first few words, Fagerstedt takes it away—and his voice soars! He sings the tune effortlessly, hitting all the notes and doing it all so calmly!
Although nobody was sure what was going to happen, Fagerstedt puts the entire crowd at ease.
While he thinks to hand the microphone back to Bublé, he refuses it and makes him finish the song!
When the song switches into the high notes, Fagerstedt hits them no problem—and nobody could be more excited than Bublé himself. When the song is finally over, the audience roars with applause and Fagerstedt buries his head, overcome with emotion. Although this is a great concert tradition on Bublé’s part, nobody expected the song to have the huge impact that it did!
Although it goes without saying, nobody in the audience is going to forget that show!
The story has already been covered by various digital outlets and has had a huge impact on Fagerstedt himself.
He shared the clip on his Facebook, where it was shared more than a thousand times. Still, we’re guessing it’s going to spread even further than that! Though we all get to admire our heroes from a distance, we don’t always get to interact with them directly and even perform for them up close. Though it was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience, hopefully it’ll just be the beginning of a long musical career for Fagerstedt!
