Three sisters from Alabama are gaining worldwide attention after a Facebook video of them singing the national anthem in a restaurant went viral.
The three siblings are the Matthews Sisters. They are Sadie Renae, Mia, and Jacey Leilani and they’re from Centre, Alabama. None of the girls were over the age of 18 when the video was filmed; they were 18,12, and 10 respectively. Yes, you read that right — the youngest sister is only ten!
The girls’ mom, Tara Matthews, has always had music in her blood; she too, loves to sing. When she first received news that she was pregnant with her first child, she had hoped that they would love music as much as she did. Her wishes came true — threefold.
The three girls decided to do an impromptu performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” — it left everyone’s jaws on the floor.
As the sisters take their places to sing, they almost look a bit shy and nervous. When they start to sing the patriotic tune, however, all of that anxiety disappears and they are in their element. The melody that all three of their voices creates is absolutely haunting.
It’s hard to believe that the youngest in the group is only ten while the oldest only eighteen. The control over their pitch and their harmonies is something you’d expect from seasoned professionals.
When it comes to the highest note of the song during the lyrics “o’er the land of the free” — the three of them hit the notes perfectly in complete harmony.
As the girls wrap up their surprise performance for the restaurant staff, all of them receive a standing ovation and a round of applause. Both of which were very well-deserved. The talent that these girls possess is completely off the charts.
Once the video was uploaded to Facebook, the Matthews family was stunned by how much attention it was garnering. Surpassing the 1 million mark, then 5 million, then the 10 million view mark. Their performance has now been seen over 11 million times and counting. Not to mention, the post has been shared over 180,000 times.
Earlier this year, the young sisters took on a recording contract with Audiostate 55, a Birmingham, Alabama, studio.
Their angelic, beautiful voices are spreading across the world. Thanks to the video below, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing them perform the national anthem at a giant sporting event soon.
