It’s that time of year you’ll see bright colorful lights in hues of yellow, red, and green, plus faint sounds of Christmas songs in public places.
That familiar magical chill is in the air alright.
The season of cheer is just around the corner!
And hopefully we can now celebrate it normally, as compared to the last two years.
How about a little Matteo Bocelli to bring the spirit in to your homes?
The son of Andrea has taken after his legendary father and the world (lots of girls included) are very happy about it.
Matteo here sings “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”.
The song has quite a history. It’s actually a single by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, and it packs quite a story. And somehow, it fits Christmas.
It’s no surprise that John and Yoko were peace activists so after two years of their participating in the movement, they released the song as part of an international multimedia campaign in December of 1969.
This was the height of the counterculture movement and protests against America’s involvement in the Vietnam War.
They rented billboard spaces in 12 major cities around the world, displaying of black-and-white posters that declared “WAR IS OVER! If You Want It – Happy Christmas from John & Yoko”.
Lennon came up with this song as a means of continuing the themes of social unity and peaceful change with personal accountability.
He wanted to convey optimism while avoiding the sentimentality often characterised in Christmas music.
He was the first Beatle to release an original Christmas song after the band had parted ways.
The song, like most Christmas songs, stuck around, eventually being covered by many other artists.
Matteo is just another one who has added his name to that list.
We’re talking names such as Sarah McLachlan, Andy Williams, Neil Diamond, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, and many others.
But the young Bocelli has his own style. You can see and hear traces of his father in him but he is very much an original.
It’s soft, solemn, and yet peaceful and calming.
The video is simple but really lovely, with Matteo playing the piano surrounded by Christmas trees.
He sings the song without much drama, keeping the spirit of peace and love as the video shows videos of children with bright smiles.
It’s really a video that ushers in the spirit of the season, and what a welcoming vibe it is!
Even a viewer named Cathy Boyd felt it saying,
“Thank you Matteo.. For this beautiful song. You bring joy to the world with your voice. I love seeing the children smiling. Let’s bring love to the world this Christmas.”
There’s just something really calming about his voice. It doesn’t have that powerful edge like his father’s, but Andrea doesn’t have his son’s soothing effect either.
Matteo’s version is one you’ll be playing over and over this season. And let’s hope you sing along with the kids.
