Of all the many reality singing competition shows, The Voice has to be one of the most interesting.
Though all of these shows have different focuses and different approaches, The Voice is constantly unpredictable and works on many different levels. For those who haven’t watched before, the show works by having contestants do a “blind audition” for a panel of judges whose backs are turned to the stage.
If they like the performer, they can hit their buzzers to turn around and try to recruit them onto their team. Throughout the course of the show, the contestants compete amongst themselves to be the best—but the judges also compete to be the best vocal coach.
What many don’t know, however, is that the show has tons of international versions as well.
Though it’s hugely popular in America now, The Voice actually began in the Netherlands.
It has since become a global franchise, with different versions available to citizens of Europe, America, the Middle East and many other places. In particular, one performance out of the Netherlands was truly incredible.
As part of the structure of the show, contestants sometimes “battle” with one another after the initial rounds so that the judges can re-arrange their teams and gradually cut contestant.
This performance came from the Dutch show’s 2016 season.
The two contestants in question were named Sepp and Shauni.
As the music starts, it becomes clear that the song they’ll be singing is “Marvin Gaye” by Charlie Puth and Meaghan Trainor. To add another layer to the performance, the two of them are also dressed up in traditional, 1950s American costumes.
Although the battle rounds are supposed to pit singers against one another, it’s clear that the two of them have some great chemistry from the very beginning.
Needless to say, Sepp’s voice is incredible as well!
Though he begins by serenading Shauni, before long it’s her turn to sing in response.
Just like him, her voice is also so precise and beautiful! While both singers do a great job all on their own, the performance really takes off when they start singing to one another and harmonizing!
From that moment on, the fact that it’s a battle doesn’t seem to matter at all—the two of them have so much chemistry and they’re having so much fun singing together!
Though it goes without saying, the audience can definitely feel it.
As the song goes on, the two of them get very, very close and sing right into each other’s faces.
The two performers push the tension to the absolute breaking point and the audience loves it! Although the performance aired in the Netherlands, the clip has since spread around the world and has since earned nearly 19 million views on YouTube!
Although there have been plenty of great performances on this show and others like it over the years, this clip in particular shows just how important it is to have stage presence and chemistry. Even if the two of them were supposed to be competing, all anyone will remember is how they lit up the stage together.
Congratulations to Sepp and Shauni on a truly memorable performance! Be sure to watch the whole thing in the link below:
