The sweet sixteen is a celebration of a girl’s coming of age usually celebrated in the United States and Canada. In the Philippines, there is the “debut“, which is when a girl turns eighteen. All wonderful celebrations full of food and music.
Then there’s the Quinceanera. Commonly associated with the Latino culture, it is similar in the fact that it celebrates a girl’s coming of age at fifteen.
Different ages, same event.
Families are present, friends and perhaps would be suitors are among the guests as well. There is usually a program where they show pictures and videos of the girl’s life before her coming of age. Family members and close friends give speeches and some even perform for the celebrant.
But what it is, is a party. Once the formalities are over, it’s time to get down and have fun!
It’s going to be a whole new world for Jasmine.
Her name and that dress says it all. She loves the Disney princess. But Jasmine loves her dad even more. During her quinceanera, dad and daughter delight their guests with a dance that’s both very touching as well as entertaining.
The Temptations’ “My Girl” starts off the dance and it’s just adorable to see Jasmine swaying along with her dad. He’s a Marine by the way and he looks incredibly handsome in his uniform.
We suspect that it was dad who wanted the song.
After a chorus, the music switches to Soulja Boy’s “Crank that“. Now that one is Jasmine’s pick for sure. Even the dancing was definitely choreographed by her. But look at dad go! He’s into it himself!
A viewer named Ted said,
“Very impressive Marine. What we will not do for our children.”
Dad may be a warrior on the battlefield but he will do anything for his daughter.
And he can really dance too!
Now after that hip-hop jam, the speakers start blaring MC Hammer’s “U can’t touch this“. Check out dad and Jasmine’s footwork now. They shuffle from left to right really quickly. And they’re drawing cheers from the guests!
They go from MC Hammer to the Sugarhill Gang Apache to Korean sensation Psy, doing all the iconic dances as they went along. This is how you celebrate an important milestone! Look at dad and Jasmine go!
Dad has a lot of life and spring in those legs. Jasmine looks gorgeous but you can’t help but wonder if the dress was holding her back. She looks like she’s ready to show everyone a thing or two!

Jasmine and her father are creating wonderful memories that they can both look back on after a few decades.
A mixture of club and hip-hop sprinkled with some humor plus a lot of love make for a fun night! And is this little guy her brother? To the tune of Silento’s, “Watch me (whip/nae nae)“, he delights the guests with the song’s signature dance. How cool is this fellow?
Dad joins Jasmine again, and “My Girl” is back on. They dance for awhile, just to show everyone that even though she’s becoming a woman, dad will always be there for her. How sweet is that?
