If you spend much time watching a lot of reality competition shows, you probably get to a point where you think you’ve seen it all.

After all, this new wave of television seems to have started all the way back in 2002 when American Idol premiered. Though that show was pretty straightforward, other shows since have added new variables to the formula.

In some cases, the contestants compete against one another as the judges compete with one another as well. In other cases, contestants can do virtually any talent imaginable, as on shows like America’s Got Talent.

Still, every once in a while, a contestant does something new that people have rarely seen before.

That was definitely the case in this clip from the 2014 season of America’s Got Talent.

The performer in question was Frank Dimitri, a 74-year-old man who came on the show to sing. As he explains, he’d been singing for most of his life—although he didn’t take it very seriously until much later.

As he explains, he had a stutter for some of his life that stopped him from having the confidence it would take to get onstage. Fortunately, he finally grew into himself and was ready to share his talents.

And that’s exactly what he did.

As he walked out, he introduced himself to the entire panel of judges.

After a little banter, Frank explains that he was a bartender from the time he was 28 until he was 69. He also says that he loves walking and singing in his retirement… and that he’ll be doing both for the judges.

A moment later, the backing music starts playing. The song is “I’ve Got the World on a String” by Frank Sinatra. Although it wasn’t clear what was going to happen with his performance, the whole crowd is stunned as soon as Frank opens his mouth.

As it turns out, he sounds exactly like Frank Sinatra!

Before long, the whole crowd is clapping along with Frank’s lively performance.

Although Sinatra has his own unique style that’s hard to imitate, Frank does a perfect job emulating it without even seeming like trying. A little further in, the audience is all on their feet.

Towards the end, Frank takes in some deep breaths to stretch for the last big notes of the song—and he nails them all perfectly! When it’s finally over, he takes a bow.

When it’s over, the entire audience is on their feet giving him a huge round of applause!

The first question the judges have for him is why he waited so long to share his gifts with the world!

As he explains, his stutter stopped him from performing. As he explains himself, plenty of the audience is in tears. All the judges have only good feedback for him as they go down the line! When it’s all over, Frank gets his four yeses from the judges.
