We all grow old, and we can’t deny that eventually, our bodies become more fragile than how we were in our teenage years.

However, with Mr. Howard Louis Serena and his wife of 73 years, it makes us think that love is the one thing that can never grow old—and it can live on as long as you are with the right person.

One of their last moments together was one of the sweetest things the internet had ever seen.

Howard and Laura were captured in a video together in a hospice where Howard sang their favorite song called “You’ll Never Know” in the style of Rosemary Clooney and Harry James.

It was the exact song that Howard sang to Laura the moment he left home to fight in World War II. This particular version also means a lot to the family because they claimed that grandma Laura sounded just like Rosemary Clooney when singing. The video racked up 17 million views on YouTube, with thousands of people leaving their heartfelt messages for the couple.

Before he sang to Laura, they both exchanged sweet words with the family around them.

Howard could not stand well anymore, and his physical therapist assisted him from behind the whole time he stood up to talk to his wife on the hospice bed.

Laura’s eyesight was not as clear as it was before, but she was the only one who could look at Howard the same way they fell in love with each other. Even despite Howard’s hearing problem and Laura’s quiet voice, they were still able to exchange their sweet words and their passionate words.

As their daughter played their favorite song, Howard started to sing the words to his wife.

You could also see Laura trying to keep up and quietly mouth the lyrics of the song. The hospice was filled with love, and their kids were happy to capture and store this beautiful moment of them together.

After years of sharing their love for each other, both of them peacefully passed away.

The hospice told the heartbreaking news that grandma Laura only has an estimate of at least a week, but they released her to spend the rest of her life at home.

She lived for months in the loving arms of her family. It was only after eight months the video was captured when both of them passed away. Howard was the first one to pass away on May 15, 2016, and his wife Laura soon followed him five days later.

“Howard, a WWII veteran, and Laura were long time residents of Chicago, Illinois and Sarasota, Florida. The bond they shared was so strong that they passed within five days of each other. They are survived by their nine children, 18 grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.”

Their love story is still one of the most beautiful things that we’ve witnessed.
